Good hotel in a good location, but not 4 stars as advertised.

I stayed at the el Mehdi hotel between 20th may 2026- 27th may 2026 the view was stunning the room was 50/50 the shower kept going boiling hot then freezing cold and leaking out of the shower head , there was also water leaking out of the bidet. Our fridge worked fine but if it was on less then 5 then nothing in the fridge would be cold but if we had it on 7 some of the stuff in the fridge would freeze and form like ice glaciers inside the bottles and made a annoying humming noise but apart from that the room was good. However the entertainment people were really friendly especially Leo and Rayen there was a lot of variety of activities like aqua gym, waterpolo, volleyball, darts, salsa and ping pong. They always were kind and respectful to all guests and liked having fun with everybody (they love their job). The entertainment staff always treated you like a family member or friend and was always sad to see people leave. One or two nights, one during the week one on a weekend they have a disco like night which consists of music and dancing it’s really good however if you have younger children it might be difficult to get them to sleep as it finishes around 12am (midnight). The food in our opinion wasn’t good. There wasn’t a lot of variety especially for picky eaters or younger children and most of the fruit wasn’t ripe or like the strawberries , were flavourless and mushy. The pasta from the pasta station was chewy and the rice every time we had it was hard and chewy. The quality of the food for the price of the hotel was definitely not worth it at all. Most nights it would consist of fried fish which we was nervous to eat as they was serving RAW chicken (we spoke to another couple here who also was served raw chicken a couple days before we arrived.) We showed the pizza making chef the raw chicken and he even said one minute and rushed to get the head chef as even he could see it was pink and raw. When the head chef came out he tried telling us the pink was from rosemary and it was not raw at all and we was wrong. The head chef was very disrespectful and rude telling us we was crazy and delusional for thinking we had raw chicken. The pizza chef even said himself that the head chef doesn’t care and is an ignorant person. We did not expect this level of abuse and disrespect for commenting something was raw. If you go here always check your meat before you eat it. Also, not to mention the fact that the drinks we had from the fruit juice machine were so concentrated they were barely drinkable they was so strong and even watered down they tasted funny, the pineapple juice especially had a weird aftertaste. The fizzy drinks were always flat because they put some drink out a machine, shaked it in a bottle at the bar and gave it in your drink. We tried two alcoholic drinks one being a strawberry daiquiri which was nowhere near one but it tasted OK. But the vodka coke had a mould aftertaste and the beer was completely flat and had no head. Brilliant stay. The hotel was clean, well maintained in public areas and the staff couldn’t do enough for you. Afef the most wonderful lady on reception even went to the trouble of buying us hair bobbles when we forgot to pack them! We gave her 10dt and they were in reception the next day. Check in was smooth enough, room wasn’t ready but we had our bands and just in time for lunch. Room was clean, basic but comfortable. Cleaned daily. Entertainment team were good, very friendly and engaging. I would recommend the spa, the staff were brilliant and I felt so relaxed. Good mix of food for those more adventurous and those who prefer more western food with pizza, pasta, fresh bread and a grill each day. Good mix of other guests, got to meet some really lovely people from other cultures. Would love to return!

Food was ok but variety was lacking compared to other hotels we stayed in this country 2 single beds in room had been turned into sofas 1 on each side, which I thought was useful & made the room feel better The cleaner had not refilled the shower dispenser so no soap/shampoo in the shower!  It was made very clear in this hotel that 2 senior staff in the dinning hall would give extra preference to some female guests! All the other hotel staff were nice apart from the staff from outside, example; selling you tours, jewellery or the spa woman were all over doing it trying to get your money which had a negative effect on our stay here The man that takes your bags to room was giving a tip, yet immediately after we gave it to him he made a comment something about  "you are from the UK",  we read into this as if to say so we should had tipped more then, as he didnt say thank you either Not even chairs outside so we had to sit on a low down wall, sunbeds seemed very old

Let me start by saying, Tunisia is a developing Muslim country. Drinking is not allowed in the streets and is mostly limited to hotels and certain establishments. Dress code outside the hotels should be modest and respectful (although it is more relaxed than other Muslim countries) still be considerate. It's also not heavily westernised destination, so don't be expecting things like familiar fast-food chains or English signage everywhere. Mahdia itself is a quieter and more authentic, with fewer tourists. Great beaches and rich in history. If you're looking for a livelier, more tourist-heavy destination, you may want to consider other parts of Tunisia. After a 3 hour flight and 2 hour coach transfer, we arrived around midnight, and Unfortantley, things didnt start well. Check-in was chaotic with reception located right next to the a very loud lobby bar full of intoxicated quests, making it difficult to hear anything. We also had to fill in our own forms after paying the required tourist tax (45 diner for onw week for wo adults), which felt overall disorganised. The journey to the room didnt improve things, corridors had loud, drunk guests going back to their rooms, adding to a poor first impression. The room itself didnt meet expectations at all. Although advertised as 4 star (Tunisia standards not UK standards so bare this in mind which we did) they advertised it as the "renovated" side which was surprising. After complaining, we were moved to another room which was much better, so speak up if you have any concerns. Also worth noting: some rooms have walk-in showers, while other have shower baths with high step over. The staff were a real positive friendly, hardworking, and doing their best throughout. We couldn't fault them. Thank you to the staff dedicating all their time and hard work for guests experience. However, there were consistent issues. You are regularly approached by locals on-site selling excursions, extras and spa treatments. Always polite and friendly, but it becomes tiring having to say no multiple times if you do not purchase from them. The food was a major let down and not a 4 star level. Choice was limited, especially for those with dietary requirements, and meals were often repetitive. It felt like more effort went into deserts, fruit and bread than main dishes. My advice: if you find something you like, eat while you can as it may not be there again. Arrive early for best selection. The a' la carte restaurants (same place for both) were also very disappointing. Pre set menu, pre plated, no choice, bland food, rushed service and no real atmosphere. Staff were very polite. Late-night restaurant was mostly leftover from dinner, although if you ask, the chef behind the counter, they will serve you hot food - again was very polite. Snacks included crepes, toasties, and pastries, although I didnt try these. One highlight was the massage, one of the best i've had, although the setting didnt quite match the qua

Me and my Fiancé's aged 24 and British came to this hotel and it was amazing let me break it all down if u have any questions let me know. Their are a wide range of activities available throughout the day for all ages, from French boules and pool aerobics to volleyball and football. Each activity may lack numbers I dont know if it was the time of year or just who happened to be staying at the resort this week but the animation team do try and rally the number for each activity. Everyone in the activity team is really welcoming I didn't get everyone's name which is bad on my part but Mokey and Scooby were excellent. The food was delicious a wide range of different dishes to try with each night having a different theme. The Tunisian theme on a Wednesday night was my favourite. But as someone who tracks all their food with scales I found it very accessible and easy to navigate. All the food was great, there was no food I didn't enjoy. The waiting staff were also very friendly big shout out to Hyder. All the waiting staff and bar staff are really friendly everyone there making sure you are having a good day and a pleasant experience at the hotel. Breakfast runs from 6-10am Lunch from 12:30-2:30 and Dinner from 6:30pm. If you want food between these times they offer pancakes and sandwiches at the pool bar from 3pm and snacks by upper deck pool. Can't stress enough how amazing all the staff are everyone is so friendly, welcoming and caring. Remembering my name and previous conversations we had making it feel very personable. Even tho their first or second language isn't English communication was easy and enough you could understand each other. Rooms are cleaned religiously and they the staff around the hotel are constantly cleaning the halls and reception area making sure everything is pristine. Moreover, the outdoor pool were really cleaning. The beach being right at the foot of the hotel made it very accessible for hotel residents. There are sunbed available on the beach aswell and the sea is always really calm. There are also shower and foot baths to clean off when exiting the beach. However, the beach closes on an evening. The sides are open from 10:00-11:30 and 2:30-4:30. And they are fast, I went down many times and in a rubber ring and they are really fun. Really scratched that itchy of going down water slides and didn't feel limited. The outdoor pools are really nice and there are always available sun beds even if they are not layed out there are more available. On out trip in mid April we found it was quite enough there was free sunbeds and it was peaceful with an atmosphere of people. But not too busy the pool was crammed and there was no where to site. It was perfect really. Ps the pool is abit cold at 22°c but once you are in its great. There is a shop in site and it is really good value for money. Keep in mind we are next to a pool and a beach I got a ball, rubber ring and bandana for £12, they sell fugasi sunglasses, bags, football shirts

We had a fantastic time at El Mehdi Hotel. It’s a very family-friendly hotel with the best staff in the world. Everyone is so helpful and goes above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect. It’s a paradise for kids. The kids’ club runs twice a day and our daughter Bonita loved it. There were different activities every day and she didn’t want to miss any of them. She absolutely adores Leo, Ryan and Madi from the kids’ club. During the day she loved spending time in the park playing with other children. In the evening there was a mini disco and then a show after that. The food was good and the restaurant staff were brilliant. The same goes for the bar staff, housekeepers, gardeners and the entertainment team. The pool area was very clean and the beach is beautiful, with white sand and turquoise sea. We went on two trips – camel riding and horse riding – and loved both of them. The spa was also amazing. The 50-minute full body massage was just a dream. We never usually go to the same hotel twice, but this time is different. The staff made our holiday so special that we would love to come back again. Thank you everyone for looking after us!
