Parador de Malaga Gibralfaro

Wonderful Parador high above Malaga with wondefful view great service and comfortable rooms. One of the highlights of our fortnight in Spain.

Easy and fast check-in process, very clean and neat room with a fantastic view of the city/area. We dined at the bar which had decent food and drinks. Plenty of parking space in the hotel property and it’s free of charge! The bus option is also a plus.

The best thing about this hotel is the location and the view. Spectacular views of Malaga and the ocean. Lovely sunsets. A hike up to the castle. There is ample parking at the hotel. We stayed here for 5 nights and had 2 superior rooms. The rooms and bathrooms were large and very comfortable for the long stay. The rooms had a small balcony and a corner view of the ocean and city. We booked 6 months ago and requested that our rooms be adjoining (as my mother was travelling with us) but sadly they were not. We were put on separate floors. When we asked why they said the superior rooms were on different floors. This should have been told to us when we booked. For the most part housekeeping did a decent job but on the first day our room was not cleaned until after 3 pm. On one day the tea/coffee supply was not replenished. The rooms are not sound proof so you can hear people walking above and furniture / bags being moved. The Breakfast which we included in our stay was basic. Nothing special. Everything as exactly the same every morning with no items changing, not even on Sunday. We have had better breakfasts at smaller properties. On one day, The server at breakfast seemed quite unwell and was sniffling and coughing through out our time there. The reason I mention it is she was around the buffet, replenishing it and serving at the tables. Given there were senior citizens we felt it was irresponsible for her to be on duty. There is a fine dining restaurant that we didn’t try and a bar with sandwiches and burgers. We had dinner at the bar on two nights. The food and service was extremely poor. It’s a very limited menu. The waiter did not put in our order so we sat waiting for 30 minutes until we asked and were told there was no order placed. Then had to wait another 15 minutes for the food to come. The ketchup placed with the sandwich had been opened and used by another customer. The chocolate cake was frozen or old. We asked for it to be heated and it was still inedible. The waitress said there was no more cake. Finally, We have travelled extensively. Anywhere we’ve been the hotel management sends a superior room something complimentary. Not here. There was no management visible in all the days we were there and nothing offered as a gesture for spending 5 nights at the hotel. It really doesn’t matter, but it seems strange. A beautiful location but poorly managed hotel. Could be an absolute gem but sadly other than the locale, that is not the case.

We had the most enjoyable stay. The Parador has an amazing view of the city and coastline. The service & attentiveness were top notch

A hotel with a fantastic view over the sea and city of Malaga. The rooms were very spacious with comfy beds and a welcoming bathroom. At night it was very quiet. The one weakness was breakfast which was an odd affair with small buffet portions and a wait for hot food and coffee. The view was great from the restaurant though.
