Because I booked a hotel, I booked the best room, the executive suite, and the price was very reasonable. The view is unparalleled, the castle and the scenery are visible from the window. Highly recommended. Immerse yourself in British style. Also had dinner at the hotel.

We were I. A room on the top floor which have a great view. However the room was tired and desperately needs refurbishment. The room was also VERY warm - no heating was on but because the windows are (understandably) restricted in how wide they open there was limited cool air that could reach the room. This meant us having to sleep in a room with a temperature over 28’c which was unbearable.

Excellent location. Good reception. Wedding party in full swing was fine. Sadly, the restaurant was closed which was disappointing as we were hoping to have a relaxing evening. Food was served in the bar and was not the standard you would expect at such an establishment but we had no choice as local restaurants were difficult to secure a booking so late in the day. Room was fine and staff excellent. Small problem with evening bar meal was avoidable. Although we booked a table on arrival using our room number, we received a call from reception the following day asking for payment - we explained that we were not due to leave until the following day and would settle the account immediately if required - which we did. Again not the level of expertise and communication you would expect from a 4 star hotel.

The hotel was very nice and the staff were friendly. We had a Superior Double room that was mostly fine apart from one or two *******. My main problem was the pillows, they were very firm, no give whatsoever, one wasn’t enough but two was way too high. Consequently neither of us had a good nights sleep. A few minor issues in the room with the curtains hanging off the hooks so looked a bit untidy and didn’t pull together very well either. The tv remote was quite grubby and the buttons didn’t work very well, presumably either because of dust under the cover or needs new batteries. Final gripe is that in a 4 star hotel I would have expected more choices at breakfast, many places nowadays offer you different options such as omelette, eggs benedict, smoked haddock or salmon so a little surprised to only have the one hot option. Overall though we enjoyed our stay and the location was excellent for touring around the area or just wandering into the town.
