My third stay at the Cottage in the Woods Malvern. The first two stays were very good. My third stay a massive disappointment. My experience, without predjudice, was staying for three nights in the Coach House - the most expensive room type in the hotel, named by themselves as 'The Best.' The good points, a large room with comfortable bed and pillows. A good nights sleep. The staff very good. Housekeeping put right some of the following bad points. The bad points. The room was dirty. Over a dozen spiders in the corners and ceiling and numerous cobwebs. Layers of dust on the glass base of the ceiling light. Hairs on the bathroom wall behind the bin and dust behind the free standing bath. This wasn't a days worth of build up. The Head of Housekeeping viewed this. The explanation given was that the cleanining staff had 35 rooms to clean in only a short time. The room safe was broken. There was tea and coffee but there wasn't milk or biscuits on the first night. Milk was provided to me via reception on asking. The biscuits provided were not of the same quality as previously. There was tap water in the fridge but the fridge hadn't been turned on. The fan in the bathroom was off at the isolator switch high up on the wall, which meant balancing on the bath edge to turn it on. We were told we had a spectacular view but the view was of trees blocking the spectacular view. Breakfast, in my opinion, was poorer than previous stays, bland and it appeared of poorer quality produce. Eggs that were meant to be on rye bread were on ordinary bread and bacon was cooked past crispy. Because of this we didn't eat dinner in the hotel even though on previous visits it had been excellent. One day we returned back to our room on the ground floor and found the patio door, which opened onto a terrace and accessible to all, wide open. Housekeeping must have forgotten to close it after cleaning the room. What's happened? All in all an expensive disappointment.
