Résidence les Hauts de Marquay

In a very quiet out-of-the-way spot on a gentle hill-top overlooking farmland and woods, the residence consists of cottages of two or three accommodation units, each with their own little terrace, plus a couple of blocks of studio rooms. At the center is the reception, restaurant, and pool area. There's lots of outdoor seating in the shade of big oak tress near reception, plus a table tennis table, volleyball net, tennis court etc. The restaurant serves local specialties, plus optional breakfast etc. The outdoor pool is heated and has plenty of sun beds around it. There's also a couple of paddling pools for younger kids. The pool can get busy later in the day when families come back from their days out, but in the middle of the day is often deserted. Most of the cottage units have the children's sleeping area as a mezzanine above the main room accessed by a very steep wooden stair/ladder. The space in the mezzanine was under a sloping roof with one bed really having very low headroom. We moved to a unit on one level that we found much better, with a double bedroom (tiny but the bed was comfortable) and a separate room with three single beds. There was also a small convertible banquet bed in the main room. Our cottage had a kitchen area with gas stove and oven, large fridge, dish washer, and plenty of pots, pans, cutlery etc. The interior was all pretty worn, but clean and functional. It was very hot on some of the days we were there but if you ask at reception they can provide a fan for each bedroom. 4G reception can be okay at the residence but the free hotel WiFi is pretty awful. One very useful feature for longer stays - a washing machine by the pool area that is free to use (they provide washing powder). The residence itself may be a five minute drive up winding country lanes off an already quiet road but it's very well located to visit the Perigord Noir. Sarlat is a 15 minute drive away, and there's a big ****** supermarket the same distance away for everything you need. The Vézère river valley with Les Eyzies etc is just over 20 minutes drive away, Lascaux is 30 minutes away, La Roque Gageac and les Jardins de Marqueyssac 35 minutes away, Domme 30 minutes etc. There's so much to see and do within a 30 minute drive. TIP: Even of you have the exact location in a GPS don't necessarily trust your GPS to get you there as it's likely to send you down dirt tracks. The best way to find it is to look for signs to the residence on the D6 south of Marquay then follow their signs at each junction.
