We have just returned from a lovely weekend in this country pub, where we met up with family members. We got a really warm welcome and spent a lovely few hours in the beer garden with incredible countryside views. Our room was perfect for our short stay, with everything we needed. Our evening meal was really delicious, 'best pies ever', was the verdict by all who chose that option. The breakfast the following morning was just as delicious, all freshly cooked and served in a really friendly and welcoming way. Our only downside was that the pub was closed on Sunday evening and so we had nowhere to spend the evening. We will just have to make sure we don't include a Sunday if we come to stay again. Can thoroughly recommend if you're looking for a stay in the Dartmoor area.

Absolutely appalled at treatment on arrival the hard core car park part full parked responsbily my friend and another car who came in only to be met from I presume the management stroke possible aggroance and small man attitude, of owner? who wanted the cars parked in deep mud where we doubted it would be easy to get out off unless driving a 4 x4, very aggressive in body language speach and general attitude, so disgusted with this both parties decided to leave to witness staff? Stood at doorway laughing then waving and thumbs up. What an earth business is being run here. Good luck lived in the west country all my life and attitudes like this with businesses seldom survive. Out of season locals keep business going and word of mouth is powerful. If I was already in there and witnessed this unprofessional bullying attitude I would not

My wife Anne and myself were looking for a nice country Inn for our wedding anniversary, we were lucky enough to find the Mary Tavy Inn, what a gem of a find that was. We had a very friendly welcome as soon as we walked in. We had a nice freshly cooked lunch before checking in. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and the views from our lodge were beautiful. We stayed at the " Old Smithy ". The evening meal itself was very good, freshly made and hot. The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was again freshly made and plentiful. The countryside was stunning and lovely for walking. We wished that we could have stayed longer, next time we will. We can't wait to return to this beautifully fitted out old English Inn. My husband and I stayed at the Mary Tavy Inn for 2 nights, and we greatly enjoyed our stay and would love to return. The bed was extremely comfortable with high-end linens and duvet and plenty of pillows. The shower room had a large shower with plenty of water pressure and hot water. We stayed in the Wheal Betsy, which is the smallest room and was fine for us, but if you have a lot of luggage, you'd probably want one of the two larger rooms. The room rate was excellent value for the money. A cooked breakfast is included in the room rate along with a selection of cereal, yogurt, fruit and pastries. All of the staff were friendly, professional and courteous, and happy to answer any questions.

Very small portion sizes for the price, especially children's portions. Staff friendly, food tasty but we all felt that they could have been more generous with the portions for the price they were charging. Ice cream sundae was just one scoop of ice cream with choc sauce on it. Portion of veg was one very small chopped carrot. Clotted cream portion was not much more than a teaspoonful, they charged for extra portion. Children were still hungry. We wouldn't visit again for lunch.

Our monthly Sunday lunch with family turned out to be so good. Traditional roast dinner with choice of meats and Vegi options. Freshly cooked and well presented. Although the pub was full we didn’t feel crowded or rushed. Staff were so helpfull. Will certainly return.

Although we live locally we had never tried the Mary Tavy Inn for a roast dinner until somebody mentioned it to us. Not disappointed. The staff, the food, the ambience and cleaniness of the restaurant was absolutely 5 star. There normally is something I fine fault with but I could not fault the overall experience at all. WELL DONE TO YOU ALL !

My family and I came upon this gem. From the roadside we pulled up without expectations, but what we found inside was a delight. The decor was traditional and welcoming, the young bar man attentive and went "above and beyond", polite, helpful and friendly. The choice of drinks was great and was offered tasters, just in case. We sat in the beer garden which was truly beautiful, a view that was amazing. We ate very well, a good choice menu, which was presented immaculately and tasted as good as it looked. From the bar staff to waiting staff we were made to feel special and as if nothing was too much trouble. I cannot fault our visit, it will certainly be one we will visit time and time again. Thank you to all at the Mary Tavy.
