Hotel Villa Maria

The only negative experience we had was being charged for pool towel use and not being told prior that it would cost.

Being a hotel manager myself, the hotel is not up to a 4 star level. Starting from the positives,the hotel is on a great central location, very close to the beach,the marinas, all restaurants-shops & train bus stations. The reception team was lovely & the receptionist who checked us in (Terry) was very nice & provided us with the info needed (breakfast times, wifi code etc). The reception lobby was nice. The room was a double standard but very noisy as it was facing the street,the balcony was a Juliette balcony so you cannot use it to sit etc, the shower was the tiny & old,the minibar did not work at all (was not cooling) & when reported to the reception they did not offer to look at it.no iron or ironing board in the room, when we asked for it, we were told to pick it up from the reception and the iron had limescale on it so it was not usable (could stain our clothes. The cleaninless of the room was fair, however I could see that the floor was not hoovered or mopped during our stay. The breakfast was nice and had some traditional items, the service was good but many items were finished by 9:30 and were not replenished as the breakfast was ending at 10am. This is not right, the breakfast buffet must have enough offering until closing time. Also it is served indoors so for those who want a breakfast view, it’s not ideal. The pool was small but clean. The hotel amenities, service, offering & status of rooms reflect to a 3 star hotel and the price per night (€200 approx) is quite high for this type of hotel.

We had the best holiday at this lovely hotel. Everything about it was spot on - the location is perfect, we had a lovely room with a balcony which was kept immaculate by the housekeepers, food at breakfast and dinner was lovely, nice pool area, lovely rooftop terrace which was our favourite spot to catch the sunset, all staff are so friendly too, can’t do enough for you. Ignore the negative Nancies and book it… we thought it was perfect and I’m picky 🤣

For the price we paid (which was quite expensive ) for our 6 night stay, I was shocked at how small our room was. Not only that, the shower was so ridiculously small that if I weighed an extra 10 lbs (which BTW I currently weigh 135 lbs), there’s no way I would have been able to close the shower door. Also, if you turned the shower on at full blast it didn’t drain properly as my feet were completely submerged in water. The room was also dirty. Our feet were always black underneath even after taking a shower. On a positive note, the breakfast is nice. Do yourself a favor and spend a bit more and enjoy a bigger, cleaner hotel.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Location for centre of Sorrento excellent. The menu had a varied choice, which was served to you at your table.

We have just returned from a lovely stay at the Villa Maria. Having read some of the reviews, I will say that our room was ‘dated’ and the decor ‘tired’. We were in room 213, which had a row of broken tiles in the shower, while the shower itself was in need of an update. I also think the management could do something about freshening up the bed coverings. They are very dingy and quite out of place in the city of Sorrento, where you are everywhere seeing bright shades of lemon, green and blue. We think our room was in the older part of the hotel. Having said all that, we decided not to complain - and the room was kept spotlessly clean. Now to all the positives! The staff were amazing- we met Anna first on Reception, but all the Reception staff were equally polite, friendly and professional . But it was the restaurant staff that, in lots of ways, made this a very special holiday - we felt like one of the family. Francesco is a wonderful manager, ever vigilant, polite, efficient, professional and friendly. Rosearia was also a lovely lady, who always greeted us with a smile in the mornings and came up with that delicious jug of coffee! The other waiters - the 2 Guiseppes, Dishan and Andrea were all very efficient, polite and welcoming. All the staff are top class ambassadors for the Villa Maria. The food was excellent. A plentiful buffet breakfast, with hot and cold dishes and the most amazing display of pastries every morning and always fresh. There were three choices of starters, mains and desserts for dinner and also a cold salad bar. We ate at the hotel every night and were never disappointed. The fish was lovely - a different choice each night - my favourite was the sea bream. There is a comfortable lounge downstairs and also a rooftop pool. The location was excellent- from the front door you were virtually on the Main Street, so Sorrento was on your doorstep. We would thoroughly recommend the hotel and hope to be back someday.
