With 5 continuous days of rain in Atlanta, I needed an escape. decided to pop down to Mardi gras in New Orleans for the weekend. However, last minute looking for hotels, found them to be extremely expensive averaging between 250 to 300 plus dollars a night. Slidell and several other adjacent towns also had expensive hotels. Found a less than $100 rate in baton rouge, but that was more than 80 miles away. Another search discovered this hotel in raceland which is about 45 miles from the City of New Orleans. However even with the best traffic it takes almost an hour to get to New Orleans from here. At night driving to the hotel makes you think you're about to drive to the other side of the Earth. it got darker as I left the city and all I saw were refineries and chemical factories. However, once I found the hotel I was pleasantly surprised. Parking Lot- Is pretty much concrete without a lot of vegetation around. But it is of an ample size to handle all of the cars that came in that night. Entrance and Lobby- Well, frankly they look like they were brand new everything had a nice shiny appearance. the front desk agent on duty was also very nice and hospitable and got me checked in very quickly. Room- This was a real good surprise. My room was long and deep with a little wall separator that had a sleeper sofa couch and additional chairs in it. From the tile to the carpet, it looks like this room was built yesterday. I saw absolutely no signs of wear and tear on the furniture. as for appliances it comes with a microwave, a coffee maker, and a small refrigerator. This room could easily sleep two adults and two kids. Bed- I had a nice queen size bed and though it wasn't super plush it was comfortable. The bathroom is not large but two people can move around in it. The only issue I have is the same one I have with most hotels, the rooms are too cold when you walk into them. I cut on the heater went downstairs and read my tablet for about 20 minutes, and when I came back the room was nice and toasty. In summary, because of its distance from New Orleans this is not a hotel that you will come in and out of several times a day. It is one of those where you leave in the morning do all of your activities and then come back for the 50 minute drive late at night to your hotel. Because of the special event pricing of the hotels in New Orleans, I can easily say this hotel was half the price and just as good or slightly better than some I have stayed at in New Orleans before near the airport. So yes, I do recommend it as long as you do not mind the long drive from here back to the City of New Orleans. if you know you are going to be going in and out of your hotel frequently each day, then I would suggest a hotel closer to the city such as the ones near New Orleans international airport. Their prices in the past have been comparable, when there was no special event. attached are some photographs that I took with my tablet so you can see what the
