The location is near but consider as far walking from station. It’s very far from the walking streets/ town and castle (approx 1km or slightly more). The bus/ transport couldn’t stop exact to those area hence walking is required. If you wanted to stay close to the station, there’s more better choices which more straight forward locate from the stations. Hotel buena vista just not as straight forward. The staff is just junior inexperience. I have phone data issue and ask for wifi assistance. The wifi in the lobby is so weak that I couldn’t connect. I ended up going back to JR station to get the public wifi to fix my data. Staff just look at me without offering any solutions. But one staff is kind and he stood at the lobby. He handed me the Matsumoto map for my exploring before the 3pm check in. Hey, I expected this is done by the one at the counter not this gentleman who stand at the hotel lobby! When it mentioned hotel buena vista has good cafe etc etc .. it’s actually dated and nothing to shout about. However the perks is to book a slot and visit the sister hotel closer to the mountain with the provided shuttle bus for their onsen facilities. That was top notch !!! Please book it earlier before it’s gone. However the slot available is dinner time. So please consider it.

The service at this hotel is excellent. From the concierge to front desk. Location is near Matsumoto station. I was directed to a multi storey hotel parking at the back of the hotel. It cost 1100 yen per day (multiple entry per day). Just exchange your parking ticket with the reception . They settle the parking fees when you check out. The hotel is rather old. Looks like you entered the 1980s zone. Rooms are renovated to some extend but I could see the wear and tear. Housekeeping a bit sloppy as the window bay area was dusty when we checked in and there was a musky smell esp the bathroom.

I stayed at this hotel to see Matsumoto Castle, one of the four castles recognized as national treasures of Japan. The hotel is a 25-minute walk from Matsumoto Castle, but very close to Matsumoto Station, only a 6-minute walk. However, the hotel can send a car to pick up guests to the station for free, which is very considerate. There is a 24-hour stove in the lobby, which flickers and is very creative. Matsumoto is one of the most exquisite towns in Japan. The castle, streets, galleries, and cafes complement each other. You can go to the sundry shop to buy some small handicrafts, which is very unique.
