Matsushima Century Hotel Reviews

We came here for the local onsen experience, the location is great and it’s just opposite to scenery spots, saving us time and commuting cost. The staff and service is very professional and attentive. The double bed room is spacious, onsen clothes and towels are served. Since the shops and visiting area at Matsushima close as early as 4pm (maybe only in winter?), there’s not much action after that. This hotel experience fill up the time we spend at Matsushima, there’s a little restaurant inside the hotel for people to enjoy food after the onsen. You can also choose to go to family mart which is just 5 minutes walk away, and get whatever food you want.

The hotel is conveniently located at the heart of Matshushima Shoreline.  It’s very close to the Fukuurabashi Bridge.  All the major attractions in Matshushima Shoreline are within walking distance.  Rooms are spacious and clean.  Meals were good. You can order as many grilled ox tongue and shrimp tempura as you like in addition to what were already included in the dinner set.  Staff are nice and helpful.  

Amazing views of the bay from my room. It makes waking up every morning an almost religious experience. If you’re staying here and can afford it, pay the extra to face the bay. You won’t regret it. The bath are also has bay views and is one of the best I’ve experienced in Japan.

The hotel is 8 minutes walk away from the nearest train station, but close to the main tourist attractions. The room I stayed in was small but clean. Breakfast and dinner were delicious.

The location is very good, close to the train station and the parks ( Fukuura Island and others). The hotel is a little old-fashioned but clean, the breakfast is very good. The front desk person is very professional and polite.

The staff of the hotel was very nice and kind from the very start of the booking process, so informative when I asked about room type and the condition that I was looking for. I spend time there for 2 days 1 night with 1 room and 2 meals to celebrate my birthday with my sister. The hotel even passed the information to the restaurant staff and they were kind enough to sing the happy birthday song for me and also gave me a birthday gift. The room was cleaned well and has all the amenities you might need. The private bath was very good too.

Great service. The receptionist tried to help me out with public transport in a northern more remote area . Bed and pillows are very comfortable. I didn't try to food even it's available as half board

I checked into the Matsushima Century Hotel on April 11, 2026, and this was the worst experience of my travel career. 1. Extremely poor room hygiene: Upon checking into the room, I found food scraps and used toothpaste left by the previous guest (photo evidence available). This indicates a hygiene problem with the hotel's cleaning procedures. 2. I developed acute gastroenteritis after breakfast: After eating the hotel breakfast, I experienced severe diarrhea. Upon returning to Hong Kong, I immediately sought medical attention and was diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis by a registered doctor. The onset of symptoms perfectly coincided with my meal at the hotel, and medical certificates have been submitted to the platform and the hotel, but the hotel has refused to respond. 3. The platform and hotel's extremely arrogant handling of the situation: Unreasonable demands for evidence: Customer service actually demanded that I provide "multi-dimensional video or photo evidence" to "directly prove" the relationship between my diarrhea and the hotel's food. This absurd obstacle to proof, both medically and legally, is clearly malicious obstruction. The compensation offer was tantamount to humiliation: the platform ultimately offered only a so-called "heartfelt gift" of 530 yuan and refused to issue a written apology. In conclusion: The hotel's hygiene standards were completely inconsistent with its reputation, and the platform, in the face of a food safety incident, chose to collude with suppliers to exploit consumers instead of protecting customer safety. Travelers are advised to consider this carefully to avoid health risks and having no recourse.

It was great that it was close to the station and also close to the main attractions. The food was delicious. I was very satisfied with being able to eat plenty of oysters and beef tongue.

We arrived early to explore the nearby area, and the staff kindly allowed us to park our car, provided us with brochures, and recommended delicious restaurants. They were even more helpful than the hotel staff. Regarding the room, I was disappointed because I had booked a town view room instead of an ocean view room due to my own mistakes on Trip.com. When I tried to change it at check-in, my partner refused, so we resolved the issue by using the money for a meal. Both dinner and breakfast were buffet style, and while the menu was above average, the seasoning was surprisingly not too salty for Tohoku cuisine, and everything was delicious. The hot spring bath, with its skin-beautifying ingredients, was perfect for us. If we are staying near Matsushima Coast again, we would definitely like to stay at this hotel again. The only drawback was that the room was extremely hot. The air conditioner only had a heater switch and didn't have a cooling function, so it was still hot even with the air conditioner off. Opening the window didn't cool it down much, and even with the window open, the noise from passing trucks on the national highway was so loud that we couldn't sleep.

The hotel feels like a product of the bubble economy of the 1980s and 90s; it was probably considered very luxurious back then, but the facilities look a bit dated now. However, the location is excellent, the exterior is unique, the view of Matsushima from the windows is beautiful, it's very quiet, and the hot spring is very relaxing.
