LUX* Le Morne, Mauritius

The friendly and professional staff were amazing at every hour, even with our late evening arrival. The facilities were beautifully designed and very well-maintained. Our room was spotless clean and had a welcoming feel. We ate at the large, main restaurant only for breakfast, but it had every food you can imagine, all presented nicely and very fresh. Even with a busy buffet, it stayed clean and organized. We booked dinner at "East" the first night and the food and atmosphere was so good, we booked again for our final evening. The service was amazing and we met with the chef our final night when he prepared a special selection of sample plates. We also ate at the The Beach Restaurant, but not as impressed. It was busy, noisy with slower, cooler service. The menu had some fun selections, so we found plenty to eat. For our afternoon cocktails and snacks, we spent time with Abi at the Maison Lux cafe and bar - our favorite part of the hotel! Abi was the most attentive, gracious host and was an excellent representative of first class service at this hotel. The spa provided excellent massage services, but we were a little disappointed with the hot tub/ jacuzzi. It was cold and surprisingly stained and worn-looking compared to the rest of the excellent facilities. The steam room and sauna were nicely maintained and worked well. I usually try different places when I travel, but I hope to return to Lux le Morne again for a longer stay.

Compare to Lux Belle Mare and Lux Grand Baie, Lux le morne is a disappointment in terms of service level. The structure of the buildings look nostalgic but it’s well maintained. The level of hygiene seems to be high. I love the beach which has the best on the island. But it is a shame they couldn’t utilise this. If you imagine the other two lux hotels I mentioned above are for Waitrose and harrods sippers then this le morne hotel is for Tesco shoppers. They made mistakes in billing and quality of drinks is mediocre. I can do better at home.
