Hotel is beautiful, lobby, restaurant & bar are great, check out time is 11am, housekeeper knocked our door at 10:35am, I think it is no point, bc we’re wrapping up our luggage, and will leave before 11am regardless.

The hotel itself is really nice and the food was extraordinary and delicious. Unfortunately, you cannot open the windows in some of the rooms, as they are blocked with a lock and so the air in the room was smelly and thick the whole time I stayed there. At least the staff should be able to air the room when they clean it. All other aspects were excellent. The construction site next to the hotel is not nice but it did not disturb me that much.

Since it opened, we have regularly visited this hotel because it is good and the city of Mechelen is a nice city. Nice, neat rooms where nothing is missing. Nice cozy restaurant with friendly service. But especially the breakfast is simply sublime, like many Vandervalk hotels. visited, but nowhere else will you find it so extensive. So you would book a room for breakfast alone!!!

For example, the mussels in the shell were completely dried out and tasteless, which was also the same for other seafood in the shell. When I visited the restaurant in the past, there were always prawns and scampi as well as tomato shrimp available, which was no longer the case. In short, much less supply, although the price for brunch had risen. Disappointing and certainly not a good price/quality ratio. Too expensive for the offer!

Building site around, hotel difficult to find. Had to look for a parking space, it turned out to be further away and paid for. I would have preferred to hear in advance that the area is being extensively renovated and that parking is not on site, as is normally customary at Van der Valk. For breakfast you had to choose a time slot of 6.30/7.00 or 9.30 due to crowds. You book a 4-star hotel, you just want to have breakfast when it suits you that morning. Hallway upstairs also seemed to be in construction. Not the beautiful interior you are used to at this hotel chain.
