Stayed for 11 nights from 3rd June 2024. This was our 11th visit to the Maldives, 8th different Island, first time to Joy Island. So, what was the island like? Well, it’s a new island, only opened Sept 2023 so everything is new. We stayed in a Beach Villa which was lovely, on the opposite side of the island to the landing jetty you arrive and depart from by speedboat. Where our villa was it was really hot on that side of the island with no breeze. It would be difficult to sunbathe for very long. However, this side of the island was lovely to swim as the sea was really warm and calm, protected by a sea wall. The jetty side of the island always had a lovely breeze, so we would use the sunbeds that are positioned here, or around the swimming pool. The island itself has a number of areas suffering from erosion already and these places have unsightly sand bags in place which I am sure over time will be removed or hidden out of sight. Sand was being pumped onto the beach in places. Because the island is new, the palm trees look bare. Certainly, no fruit bats which other islands have. There was no coral reef and as a result we hardly saw any fish. The odd black tipped shark but no rays or fish found at most other islands, so snorkelling was poor, the worst island so far for snorkelling. Yes, there are trips to nearby coral reefs for snorkelling but it’s nice to have an island with its own reef like previous islands we have visited The beaches were excellent apart from the erosion. Entertainment is always difficult on a desert island, trying to please everyone. There were a couple of singers every night for an hour which became repetitive, but guests come and go so they cater for everyone. The island marine biologist did several talks in the evenings which were good. There was a karaoke one night, a film night, and a DJ most evenings 10pm till midnight. One night also had Maldivian dancers and music with Iqbal doing an amazing performance juggling with fire. The music might disrupt some guests depending on where their accommodation was, but it was not an issue for us. The sunset bar was a quiet area if you don’t want music etc and lovely to see the sun go down. The good points were the amazing staff, everyone you met, and the food, which was probably the best we have experienced, all freshly cooked, so well done all the chefs. Other islands allocate your own table during meal times so you have the same waiter. This island doesn’t but guests seemed to use the same table anyway so an allocated table might be a better idea. We think so. Speedboat was approx. 45 mins from the airport and both transfers were spot on. Special mention please to the following staff who were out of this world, best staff we have come across from our Maldives islands so far. Credit to them all. Management, we know you read this report, so please praise them all. Firstly, and apologies for not remembering your name, the lady who greeted us at the airport on arrival, the Joy I
