Hotel Riu Gran Canaria - All Inclusive

We stayed 26th November to 4th December, the hotel was fabulous on arrival and our swim up room was just fantastic. Having stayed in similar rooms in the in the Dominican and Tenerife, this was by far 100% better. Unfortunately we took very suddenly ill while at the hotel. We didn’t leave the room for 48+hours. We were extremely poorly, I violently vomited for 16 hours, and running to the toilet. We were very aware that we had ate different things at the hotel so this wasn’t food related, however it was in our opinion due to us touching something that someone else had that was infected. This is cross contamination due to many possibilities. We informed TUI and the Hotel as being decent humans we didn’t want to give this to anyone else. TUI were ok, more worried I guess that I wanted to make a claim in my opinion. They said they would call the next afternoon to check we were ok, and we still waiting for that call! The hotel on the other hand was fantastic. The maid came on the 3rd day full PPE (gloves, masks etc) we stayed outside on the balcony and she cleaned our entire room and it was all bleached, which I was over the moon with. Hotel’s normally get a lot of stick when people become ill and food is always blamed, don’t get me wrong I have unfortunately had food poisoning before in uk and yes it’s horrendous and it does happen on holiday, but this we had wasn’t from food as we ate different things so it was down to human cross contamination. But what I really liked was the fact the hotel put their workers health & safety first by ensuring she had the correct PPE to come into the room to clean. Absolutely the right thing to do for their staff, business and other guests. We have to address the situation with other guests picking up food with their hands. It’s rotten and you should be ashamed, regardless of cultures or traditions. it’s just wrong! Make sure you wash your hands, sanitise entering the restaurants and use the correct tools to pick up food. I also witnessed several women using the toilets and not washing your hands at all, again be ashamed and start washing. Men tugging at their shorts, blowing noses, touching their hair and then picking up food with your hands! It’s shameful. You’re all grown adults and unless you were born in a barn and brought up like an animal, be civilised and decent, wash your hands and use the tools available to pick up food! The rest of the holiday was spent relaxing and having the best time. The chicken and steak in the steak house were beautiful. The Italian was also fantastic. And my personal favourite sushi! Our mini bar was stocked daily and even when we’re were unwell we were given water. We would highly recommend the hotel, we had swim up room 7110 and we had sun from 10.30am to 5pm, it was amazing and well worth the extra cost. We would definitely return

Exactly what you’d expect for the price. Clean if a little dated in places. Great for families. Visiting in November proved a great bet. Weather was excellent and very hot. Lots to do inside and out of the hotel. If you’ve stayed at a Riu hotel before you will not be disappointed.

We had a fantastic stay at the RIU Gran Canaria! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome. Everyone we met — at reception, in the restaurants, and with the entertainment team — was friendly, helpful, and spoke at least understandably German, English, and Spanish. The housekeeping team was also incredibly kind and attentive. The hotel is spotless and very well maintained. The only small downside is that there’s no direct access to the beach, but it’s just a short walk along the beautiful promenade right in front of the hotel. The stroll is lovely and offers great ocean views. The location overall is great — right on the promenade, just a few minutes’ walk from a supermarket and a small shopping center. The main bus station isn’t far either, and there’s even a bus stop directly in front of the hotel. The food was excellent with plenty of options — fresh fruit, meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes. Everything was tasty and nicely presented. The bars were another highlight, especially the wide selection of non-alcoholic cocktails. Some drinks were a bit watery at times, but overall there was plenty of variety and good quality. Overall: A very clean, well-run hotel with friendly staff, great food, and a perfect location by the promenade. We’d definitely recommend the RIU Gran Canaria and would love to come back!
