Burt's Hotel

Stayed here with four friends whilst riding the Coast and Castles Cycleway. A wonderful place and certainly the highlight of our trip. We arrived wet and were immediately offered drying facilities. Bikes safely stored under cover (a purpose built outside bike store with charging facilities for E-bikes is planned). Rooms spacious, clean and well equipped, staff friendly and efficiently helpful - Oh, and the evening meal!! This was wonderful. The dining room was the perfect venue for a memorable and special meal. The venison haunch was the best I've ever tasted (and I'm a butchers son!).

My partner and I stayed here for a wedding. The hotel was clean and well located close to the Melrose Abbey. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive to our needs. They checked in on us when we were about to miss breakfast and ended up bringing breakfast to our room. Patricia even took us to the train station when we weren't able to find a cab. Truly a gem of a place! Would recommend for your stay in Melrose.

Stayed for a night: lovely hotel room and very comfortable, and delicious breakfast and dinner. Easy to get to from Berwick upon Tweed, with a bus stop directly outside. Staff were friendly and helpful. Great place to set off on St Cuthbert's Way.

This is an impressive looking well established family run hotel in the very centre of pretty Melrose. There's a decent size car park to the side and rear and a bus stop next door with a frequent service to most of the key surrounding towns. The welcome once through the door is warm and helpful. I'd a quiet rear facing single room with a small double bed, pleasantly furnished with a modern cosy bathroom. Personally I'd have preferred a chair with a back rather than a stool to sit on. The evening meal service is popular with locals and visitors staying in other accommodation, so book ahead. The dishes come out from the kitchen very quickly and are generously proportioned. All in all a very comforting overnight stay.

Excellent stay in a beautiful traditional Scottish hotel located in the centre of Melrose. Hotel very clean and smart throughout. First class food (dinner and breakfast) in the Bar Bistro. Warm welcome from our check-in to departure, would highly recommend a visit.

Centrally located hotel in Melrose with own car park. Staff were exceptional and the food was very good. The room was on the second floor but with no lift could be difficult if less able. There was no view from the room and the shower was over the bath. Bed was comfortable and large in this executive room with king bed.

Went for an evening meal, quality of food was very good, as was the choices. Very nice atmosphere in the Bistro, service was quick and competent. Definitely a place to keep returning to for an above average evening meal but still a lovely casual atmosphere. Only reason not 5 stars is that some of the dishes were a bit too salty for our palate.

The hotel was very convenient on the square but , unfortunately , Saturday night was noisy with exuberant youngsters having a great time revving cars and shouting ., The staff were lovely and did their best to help and please . However, the restaurant was very much in need of more staff . One overworked waitress ( who was excellent) on our first night , and the same lovely lady with a bit of help on the second wasn’t enough to give the lovely food and higher prices the 5 stars they deserved. The decor in the bedroom was very dull - khaki walls and buff coloured carpet needed brightening up a little - but that is nitpicking ! The bed was large and comfy with spotless sheets and duvet etc. Plenty of towels in the bathroom but toiletries in short supply - no shower cap , and only one small shower gel and one small shampoo for the two of us for 2 nights . The bathroom was large but really needed refurbishing as taps, tiles and shower were somewhat outdated. Breakfast was excellent and served piping hot by pleasant waitresses - none of the usual buffet stuff ! All in all a good place to stay but a few alterations could make it excellent all round.

Burts Hotel is right in the middle of Melrose and with dedicated parking is an excellent choice. Although on the main road, it's not that noisy and doesn't disturb during the night. There is very little disabled parking available in Melrose, so speak to the manager if close access is required. The food was lovely both at breakfast and evening meal, although for a pub/restaurant it was overpriced. It does book up very quickly, so reservations needed, but there are lots of other places around for all budgets. The room was a decent size, but the drawers in the units smelt very musty inside, so we didn't use them. The wardrobe though had plenty of storage. The room did look dated but that was only on the surface. The bathroom was modern with nice tiling and a good shower. Unfortunately there wasn't sufficient toiletries for two people, but you can always ask the staff. The wifi though was very poor so we used data. Overall a lovely stay, and I would go back there again.
