Our circa 1796 hotel is steeped in history being the boyhood home of our nation*s 15th President James Buchanan -- built by his father James Buchanan Sr. -- Buchanan*s father opened a store in what is now the Pub and introduced young James to the problem of keeping things accounted for and in their proper places. By the time James was 10 years of age his father was one of Mercersburg*s leading businessmen. When Buchanan was sixteen he left Mercersburg to attend Dickinson College. Comfort Inn is the place we always stay when visiting the area. Room is comfortable and there is a mini fridge/freezer which I think is a must have. There was construction going on but didn’t interfere with us and we didn’t have disrupting noise. They’re remodeling the place. Staff is wonderful, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was typical motel style but good. The lady that prepares breakfast makes good scrambled eggs and egg casseroles, she also keeps the area very clean. Brothers restaurant is attached to motel and they have very good food. Subs, pizza, Italian dishes, salads.

The Mercersburg Inn was a wonderful place to lay my head after a long day of driving down from Boston on a road trip. I had a broken foot and they helped me with my bags, the dining room was charming and the food was delicious (I had scallops and risotto for dinner — highly recommend!). There was even live music in the dining room and it was wonderful for the ambiance (not too loud, just right!) My room was lovely and put me back into the 1900s in terms of its lovely antique furnishings. But the very comfortable bed and pillows, soft robe and free WiFi provided modern comforts as well. Breakfast was served, not a buffet, which I loved. And the innkeeper gave me a gift bag with snacks and waters for my journey the next day. She even hooked me up with bags of ice for my cooler. I really appreciated the extra touches and above and beyond attention they gave me. The setting and surrounding gardens are beautiful and there are plenty of comfy seats on the wraparound porch to enjoy the watching the sun set beyond the mountains. This is definitely more than just a B&B, it's a wonderful inn experience. I would definitely return for a weekend out in the beautiful Pennsylvania rolling countryside.

It was a good place to stay for an affordable rate. No issues whatsoever with the room. It was clean and tidy. The only disappointing thing was at breakfast. There was a pancake maker that was out of order so the only hot food was toast. That wouldn't discourage me from coming here again, because the price was just right and there's other restaurants within walking distance.
