We’ve just enjoyed a thoroughly relaxing 24 hour break that we managed to get booked in at the spread eagle at short notice for my birthday. In fact, we’ve enjoyed it so much that we decided on our departure that we are going to make a regular visit to this hotel to chillax Lovely comfortable room, spa was ideal for an afternoon of doing nothing, superb food both Saturday night and breakfast on Sunday morning and the whole experience was made all the better by the entire team who looked after us so well, they are a credit to the HSH chain. But, I have to make a special mention about, Horace, an absolute gentleman who I think looks after front of house and does it so well. He has an ability to be on top of everything, nothing was too much trouble, he really knows how to look after all the guests. Thank you to everyone, we’ll definitely be going back.

We have just returned from a lovely relaxing stay at the spreadeagle. Upon booking in, the reception staff were lovely and friendly and gave us a little tour. The hotel is exceptionally clean and I found the beds really comfortable. We enjoyed a massage during our stay and I was extremely impressed, it was one of the best I've had! My husband was equally very impressed The jacuzzi is wonderful, it's a pleasant change to get in one that's actually lovely and warm 😊 sauna and steam room very small but do the job. The service at the restaurant was really good too. Attentive but not harassing, felt very relaxed.

Really enjoyed my early evening dinner in this lovely hotel. It is a splendid old building and as we were early we enjoyed a drink in the bar which is lovely and comfortable. The dining room is also very comfortable and relaxing - good sized tables and spacious. The food is not quite top notch - my pork chop, though clearly good quality was a little tough and under-seasoned but the wine was spot on and the whole meal very good value. The service was great with just the right balance of friendly and professional which again made for a lovely relaxing dinner.There was a lively wedding party on the evening i visited which may have impacted on the kitchen - but added to the happy atmosphere. i will happily return.

Great staff, made to feel very welcome. Just a one night stay but the extended use of facilities and welcoming atmosphere after check out meant wr got to enjoy the wonderful building and made a quick break feel more like a holiday. Thanks again

Beautiful hotel with loads of character. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was exceptional. The Spa was a real treat and the treatments were wonderful. Set in a lovely Market town and close to lots of places to visit. Would recommend.

As I arrived, 2 guests were checking out and removing the 'discretionary service' from their bills, which was not a good start. The reception staff were friendly and pleasant and our room was clean and comfortable. The bar and restaurant was very busy with an additional private party ongoing. I was very disappointed by the quality, quantity and food choices on the menu. I had a tiny portion of smoked salmon and a dry and tough pork chop with 2 carrots and one potato. Our room had an incredibly squeaky door to the bathroom which would wake us up overnight and a flicking light bulb. Awoken by dogs barking in the corridor at 7am and then a very average cooked breakfast.

The swimming pool, sauna, steam room were my favourite amenities Very cheerful staff. Got a little lost looking for my room the first time but a truly lovely setting. You’ll experience, exposed wooden beams, and historic ambience in the hallways and stairs. Cocktails in the bar were delightful with a working fireplace and comfortable sofas I ended up walking through the restaurant in my bathrobe because of my room placement to get to the spa but that’s just part of the spread eagle charm My room was clean, comfortable and I’d definitely stay again.
