Comfort at Findley Lake

This is the worst hotel I have stayed at in my 40 years of traveling. First, it was filthy. The garbage overflowing from garbage cans, garbage littering the hallways and in the kitchen area. Our room appeared clean but there was a dirty sock and empty bottles under the bed. We had no soap, kleenex or toilet paper. when i asked for these items i was given a bar of soap but had to wait hours to get the toilet paper and kleenex. there were no towels at the pool and the ladder was not safe as well as several broken chairs. Breakfast was a joke. A bag with milk (not refrigerated) cereal (stale) an apple and a days old pastry. The worst part was the owner who was at the front desk. He was rude and didnt honor my reservation. He said the suite i requested wasnt available but i could have a standard for the same price, How does this make sense. when i asked for a different rate he was rude. the only reason I didn't run screaming was because I had 2 small children w me who were tired and wanted to go swimming . A staff named Paul was working his butt off but he couldnt do everything. This place is a disaster. I called choice corporate and was told there was nothing they could do. Nice policy. I will not be staying in a choice hotel any more.

I would rate this hotel 0/5. It was the worst experience I have ever had. The outside of the hotel was overgrown and unkempt. The hotel keys were given to me in a paper sleeve that came from a box of used paper sleeves. The first room had people in it. The second room had people in it, the third room the clerk checked had people in it and finally the forth was open. The elevator was broken, the stairwells were filthy. The fire door was broken and ajar and did not close. I’m certain this is a fire code violation. The linens were yellowed and pulling. We did pull and look for bed beds but didn’t see anything. There were not enough towels so we tried to call down to the desk but the phone didn’t work. When I went down to ask for more towels he said they were out and gave me wash cloths and two hand towels. We could not find another hotel in Erie, PA and we could not drive all the way back to Michigan as we were in town for a sports tournament for our kids. Of course the reservation was nonrefundable. We called corporate to file a complaint they advised us the manager would call us. No one ever did and there was no one at the desk in the evening to talk about it. In the morning we had to leave by 630 and there was no one at the desk to check out- but a sign saying they would be back by 7am. When we called corporate again they gave us the number to the manager Arun. We called him and he started yelling over the phone. He accused me of making false accusations and was swearing. He was very aggressive. I will never stay at a comfort inn or their group again. The customer service was awful at the hotel and with corporate.

Ok I was nervous about staying because of recent reviews, but the room was clean and I did not see excessive garbage everywhere. The only issue we had was a plugged toilet. Is it in the same shape it was before the pandemic? No . Is it terrible? Not at all. I can see it is getting rough around the edges, but nothing that would prevent us from staying there again.
