A 5-minute walk from the hotel entrance is the Shiroyama Observation Deck where you can overlook Sakurajima. The hotel has a free shuttle bus to Kagoshima JR Station, which runs every half hour. All hotel staff are friendly and well-trained. The facilities inside the hotel are very complete and there are many restaurants, including Japanese restaurants and Western restaurants. I personally recommend the semi-buffet lunch at The Lounge Casablanca on the 4th floor. There are a variety of appetizers and soups to choose from. For the final dessert, the waiter will push a cart to you and ask you what you want. The hotel has its own bakery and dessert shop, and its desserts also have a counter in Kagoshima JR Station. The hotel's large bathhouse has an open-air hot spring. Sitting in the hot spring, you can overlook Sakurajima in the distance. The most important thing is that this hotel is not expensive! If I go to Kagoshima next time, I will definitely stay at this hotel.

The Sherton Hotel in Kagoshima was an absolute gem of a hotel! This is our first visit to Japan, and we are admittedly nervous about the language barrier and cultural change from the US. From the moment we checked in, the staff has bent over backwards to make sure we are comfortable and have done a fantastic job to make this stay completely comfortable and enjoyable. The location is perfect right at the center of downtown Kagoshima, and the rooms, restaurants, and common spaces have more in common with a Four Seasons than with what is standard Sheraton in the US. We were not able to take advantage of the spa, but the Onsen (Hot Springs Sauna) was so relaxing and rejuvenating — especially after 26 hours of flights to get here! HIGHLY recommended. Thank you to the staff that has helped make our 4 days in Kagoshima a memorable experience! Now off to Hiroshima!
