Stayed recently overnight between destinations, it was a little hard to find as signposting isn’t the best. Outside is lovely, the back side next to the canal is very serene and peaceful. The room we had was up a lot of creaky, uneven stairs with wobbly banister rails, once we reached the summit of our room we were faced with a stark, empty and tired room. It was clean ish but anything other than a quick glance reveals just how dusty and sad the room is. The bathroom was large but the shower was disgusting and covered in a slimy black goo - which washed easily off so definitely a case of not being cleaned properly. Pillows were a bit rubbish but that might have been my personal preference. The room itself was very quiet though on the night we stayed. They have a few rooms on a ground floor but the majority of this hotel is not disabled friendly - ask when booking if you need a ground floor room. We ate dinner and a breakfast- dinner was fine and the waitress was able to put together a gluten free meal for me whilst also admitting the gluten free choice was rubbish. No issues with dinner. However, was told at breakfast that if I wanted gluten free toast I should have pre booked this - which is fine but nowhere on the website or room information does it tell you that you have to pre book, I was offered some gluten free milk - which a) is not a thing and b ) was the oat milk that would have made me very ill. The guy in charge of breakfasts was a bit rude and not that helpful. Breakfast was cold and I could have cut the bacon with the bacon. I’d advise going to the Costa up the road instead.
