This is a hotel that you'll want to come to with your family outside of work. We will use it again next time.

This is a hotel in a small town where you can also take a day trip to the hot springs, but the food was delicious and the staff were all very efficient and I felt very comfortable. The food, which used local ingredients, included turkey and wild vegetables, and the mojito made with Japanese mint was fragrant and delicious. It is not a resort as it is not a natural hot spring, the facility itself feels old, and there are also day-trippers, but it was a relaxing place. If you are lucky, you can meet Hokkaido red foxes, eagle and other wild animals while walking in the nearby Nature Centre. There is a small department selling local products. The nearest convenience store is about 7 kilometers away from the commissary and there is very little public transportation. If you don't drive, buy something you need and come over. The hotel staff's service was excellent, with 4 points because the hotel seemed to be less suitable for foreign tourists. I use Japanese to communicate, so the problem is not big, but if it is in English communication, various introductions may be omitted. Only the lobby and several rooms were renovated while the rest are rusted and falling apart. Upon check in at 3pm we were told the original dinner time we have booked and CONFIRMED were no longer available and only 8pm were available. Fine. As outside were snowing hard we asked if they have any umbrella available and they just answered “NO”. Even a business hotel have umbrella for rental. How they dare to called themself “Grand” Hotel? When we arrived at the dinner buffet we were left with what’s essentially left over from the previous guests and nothing gets refilled. At 9pm suddenly they told us for the first time they are closing now and literally kicked us out of the buffet with no explanation. None of the staff speak any proper English and this is the worst ever Onsen hotel experience. Don’t waste your time and money.

I came here advised by the staff at my hostel, looking for a tattoo-friendly onsen. This is a large, fancy resort and I don't deny I felt a little out of place at first 😁 The place is super nice, yet the entrance (without towel fee) is only 1000 yen, or 800 if you have the discount coupon from the hostel, which is conveniently next door. I have very large, very visible tattoos (including on my arms, legs and neck) and I was allowed entrance without any issues, although in some of the bath areas there are signs that say ”No tattooes”, which I figure must be old. There are a few different pools, both indoor and outdoor, including an open-air bath on the 7th floor, overlooking the magnificent mountains and gorge. I was the only foreigner and the only person with tattoos. I'm so stoked I could experience such a place, definitely worth visiting if you have tattoos and are in the Daisetsuzan area!
