My car had broken down and my travel insurance had put me into a luxury hotel in central Rouen without explaining why or telling me that there would be a considerable sum of money that I would have to pay. I asked to be moved and they placed me at BritHotel Mont St Aignon. My first impression was that the place was run down - the garden was untidy and full of ****s. Then I saw the notices which explained that it was a wild flower garden specifically to attract butterflies and bees ... the penny dropped. I learned soon afterwards that the hotel was on the edge of a piece of parkland, la Vatine, which I went to explore. I fell in love with the location. Next door to the hotel is a hypermarket where I was able to buy some extra clothes - I had only been travelling with suffient for a single night's stop.
