The Monterey Fireplace Inn

My favorite place to stay when in the area. The man who runs the place is the nicest man in the world ! Very friendly, understanding, and hospitable. The housekeeper is a sweetheart and works very hard and quietly. Cleanest hotel you will find in the state. Highly recommend.

I rarely leave reviews, but people need to be warned about this place. I checked into Fireplace Inn on March 7, 2026, and immediately realized the room was not in livable condition. There were ants all over the room, including near the bed. On top of that, there was what appeared to be animal urine on the floor, and the entire room had a strong, damp mildew odor. The bed was dirty and clearly hadn’t been properly cleaned. This was not just uncomfortable, it felt unsanitary and unsafe. I reported everything right away to the manager, Henry, who told me I would receive a refund. I trusted that and left the property. Now, after following up, they are refusing to issue the refund they promised. That’s where this went from a bad stay to a dishonest business practice. It’s one thing for a place to have issues, but it’s another to acknowledge them and then go back on your word. I strongly recommend staying somewhere else. This experience was unacceptable from start to finish, and I would not trust this motel with my time or money.

Room was clean, easy if almost contactless check in and out, wifi worked, no issues with getting in a little late, bed was comfortable. Couldn’t close the bathroom window all the way but no real issues from that. One of the bath towels was threadbare but clean. Refrigerator worked, heating unit worked ok, standard loudness but never overheating the room. No additional safety locking except for the bolt on the door. Touch tap entry for key was nice compared to slide-in card keys.

I had trouble with the ice machine. The front desk clerk said I had to keep pressing the button to make it work. On further review, the machine wasn't even plugged in. The water pressure was lacking,and the shower head was so corroded that it couldn't even turn to the spray selection. Even tough it was a no smoking room, I had burn holes in my blanket.The freezer in the refrigerator does not work. I had a whole bag of ice that melted.There was a person who was knocking on all the doors that seemed to be tweeking.

Staff was friendly, room was clean, and location was convenient. We’ll definitely stay here again
