Hotel is stunning and the bedrooms were lovely. Would say that the check in was quite chaotic. The only staff members I can praise was Duncan and Cory, who looked after us well during the evening meals. Can’t comment on anyone else as had no dealings with other staff. Was disappointed that the alcohol flowed freely for our fellow drinkers but, being non alcohol drinkers, we felt a little bit forgotten about!

Lovely building inside and out. All of my little ******* could be attributed to the lack of staff. The staff that were there worked incredibly hard and should be commended, particularly Duncan & Cory but excluding valet parking Dean who should be moved to a non customer facing role before you don’t have any customers.. The food was delicious & the rooms comfortable and well appointed. The option of the free falconry display and ‘meet the ferrets’ is inspired and fun, all in all a nice place to spend a few days relaxing and exploring beautiful Devon.

Allocated a room that seemed perfectly decent until the noise started. It turned out that the extractor fan to the kitchen is attached to the outside wall of the room. The sound is like a constant roaring. We complained to reception who brusquely informed us that the fan would be turned off after dinner service. It wasn’t. Another trip to reception after 11pm resulted in the night manager turning it off himself. Then it started again at 7am in the morning. Why put anyone in this room when other rooms were clearly available? Beware.

The hotel and grounds itself are fantastic and beautiful. The rooms are spacious and great. The pool and playroom are good and great for children. I don’t think there should be a charge for the playroom though, that seems unfair considering the price of a family room. The reception staff were nice. The Smiths restaurant staff were slow, and the food was a let down. The pizzas were clearly packet pizza, the steak wasn’t great. The room service food was the same standard, very below average. We had room service for lunch and breakfast and we were disappointed. The telephone didn’t work very well, the room service phone line didn’t work during our entire stay, it just wouldn’t ring. We didn’t watch the tv much but when we did it kept turning off and said “no signal”. The food really let the stay down for us unfortunately, with a 5 star hotel you expect 5 star food.

Absolutely fabulous place with the most helpful professional and friendly staff we have ever experienced. One of our friends is disabled and the staff were fantastically helpful without requesting assistance but nevertheless not intrusive. The facilities and surroundings were breathtakingly wonderful. The lodge we stayed in was extremely comfortable with every need you could require. Excellent seems inadequate for our expectations it was a wonderful few days and experience.

Another visit which was fantastic. We had a suite room which was superb. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast in the Great Western dining room was excellent. The previous evening we ate in the brasserie and this was far from the best meal we have had in that restaurant. One of our party had the risotto with sun dried tomatoes, asparagus and topped with grilled sea bass. Very disappointing as they played hunt the asparagus, which appeared to actually be the bottom of the stalks. Very expensive for what it was. Wouldn’t choose that from the menu again

Amazing experience! Lovely setting and great staff. Special shout out to Tia at reception for all her help, she was nothing short of an angel! Nothing was too much to ask and she even helped me book an afternoon tea! Will be coming back in the summer for another delightful stay.

What a wonderful experience at Bovey. A beautiful spacious rooms with twice daily housekeeping. The views are amazing from so many places within the hotel. The Great Western Room provided both a beautiful atmosphere and delicious food. We had the Dover Sole, fileted tableside and the Beef Wellington that was cooked to perfection. We did the off-road experience and the young lady who provided instruction was the perfect combination of patience and encouragement, for a right handed driver shifting with his left hand for the first time.
