Tucked inside a plantation bordering Nagarhole Tiger Reserve, Machaan Wilderness delivers what it promises—an immersive jungle stay without giving up basic comforts. The property is close to the park’s Nanachi Gate, which makes it especially convenient if wildlife safaris are the main reason you’re here. What stood out right away was the setting: dense greenery, total quiet, and a calm that kicks in almost instantly after arrival. This isn’t polished, five-star luxury—it’s rustic, thoughtful, and clearly designed for people who come for the forest. I genuinely unplugged here, and that feels deliberate—there are no TVs in the rooms, which honestly adds to the experience. That said, there’s one serious downside: the lodge occasionally hosts large corporate groups, and the noise can completely break the mood. It’s frustrating when you’ve picked a jungle retreat precisely to escape crowds and chaos. The whole idea of Machaan—waking up to birdsong, hearing the forest at night, leaning into that quiet disconnect—falls apart when half the property is taken over by loud groups. I’d strongly suggest checking with the resort in advance about group bookings during your stay. The contrast between the advertised tranquility and the reality of sharing space with dozens of noisy guests can be quite jarring. LOCATION: The location deserves the praise it gets. Being just minutes from the tiger reserve meant early safaris didn’t involve brutal wake-up calls. The last stretch of the drive—about 40 kilometers through forest roads—sets the tone perfectly. It’s roughly a two-hour drive from Mysore, remote enough to feel like an escape but still manageable. DINE + DRINK: Food was a mixed bag. The South Indian dishes were excellent and felt authentic, but the North Indian options didn’t quite land. That’s worth noting since many stays are all-inclusive. Meals are served in a communal hut, which creates a friendly, social vibe but doesn’t really allow for private or romantic dinners. We were lucky, though—the GM arranged something special for us, which we appreciated. ROOM: We stayed in Room 406 (Luxury Machaan), so this is based on that experience. The yurt-style Luxury Machaans are quite distinctive, and some come with private jacuzzis. SIZE: Comfortable for two adults with regular luggage. VIEW: Gorgeous jungle views from a large patio, which also had an outdoor jacuzzi. AIR-CON: Cooling worked perfectly and kept the room comfortable. BED: Comfortable and exactly what you want after long safari days. BATHROOM: Well-sized with a walk-in shower. TOILETRIES: Good spa-style products. FACILITIES: The highlight here isn’t a gym or spa—it’s the experiences. The bird walks, nature trails, and especially the night walks were excellent. The naturalists are clearly passionate and make a big difference to the stay. There’s also a year-round outdoor pool and spa treatments if you want downtime between activities. I stayed three nights at Machaan Wilderness Lodge as a solo female traveller. The whole experience was fantastic. The rooms are beautifully designed, very comfortable, with great amenities including air conditioning. The whole property is so peaceful - beautiful birds and squirrels and we even had a visit from an elephant to the edge of the property on my final morning. I had the pleasure of having Peter as my naturalist guide every day - we did some bird watching walks around the property and he joined me on four jeep safaris into Nagarahole. I saw 55 new birds species in total across the days, which totally exceeded my expectations. The food at the lodge was also delicious, the staff were all really helpful, and the swimming pool was a real bonus after a hot afternoon safari. The whole place is a haven of peace and quiet.

This was our second visit to Machaan with our entire family of seven. The stay was beautiful. The staff were very polite and attended to our requests immediately. The housekeeping team was excellent and kept the rooms neat and tidy. The property itself is a green paradise, and the food was exceptionally good. They arranged for us to experience the Karnataka government–operated Nagarahole Safaris, which turned out to be a truly memorable experience.

Amazing, unforgettable experience staying at the lodges. Wonderful knowledgeable staff and delicious food. I will never forget the sound of the birdsong from my balcony. The wildlife night trip was worth doing. Would highly recommend staying here.

Excellent weekend getaway. Very good quality Food, Room and Service. Best part are the activities like Nature Walk, Nocturnal walk, Bird watching and the arrangement for Tiger Safari. Great efforts by the team to make the guests comfortable and special thanks to Shreyas who got in touch before arrival and facilitated all requests till check out. Definitely a must visit and place worth revisiting.

Machaan Wilderness Lodge was the highlight of my holiday. The place itself is stunning and very peaceful. Only the sounds of the birds could be heard. There was a bird walk in the morning and we saw a Malabar Grey Hornbill feeding its young. There was a great variety of birds which were pointed out by our guide and were given binoculars to use. All the guided walks are guided by people educated in birds, animals and plants. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were cheerful and made sure that we enjoyed our stay. We had booked last minute but they made sure we went on two safaris and were very lucky to have a tiger sighting. There was also a nocturnal walk around the property where we saw insects, toads and even a scorpion. All in all there was so much to do and a beautiful spa on site. The rooms were spacious and very clean and I would highly recommend this lodge for a tranquil and interesting stay.

Our stay at Machaan Wilderness Lodge was nothing short of amazing—especially in their Luxury Yurts accommodation. The room itself was stunning, thoughtfully designed, and perfectly in tune with nature. You won’t even notice the absence of a TV because the surrounding beauty is more than enough to keep you captivated. If you’re looking to truly disconnect and recharge, this is the perfect escape. And if you still want to stay connected, their Wi-Fi is impressively strong—even outdoors—so you can instantly share those breathtaking views. A special mention to Pansih, the manager, who was incredibly accommodating and made us feel right at home—while still giving us that peaceful “away from it all” experience. I’ve heard great things about their spa as well, though I didn’t get the chance to try it this time. Definitely something to look forward to on our next visit (hopefully there will be next time). It’s about a 4–5 hour drive from Bangalore, but every minute of the journey is worth it.

A remote and very peaceful resort. We stayed in the Yurt accommodation….. loved it. Views over grassland to forest. All staff were most welcoming and attentive, especially our bird guide Peter. Food was great and cooked fresh. It was in close proximity to the Tiger park and yes we saw a male on an afternoon drive.
