We had such an enjoyable stay! Such comfortable accommodation. The local products provided were excellent particularly the milk, herb tea and coffee. We didn't have a car so we took up the offer of transport from Sonobe train station (arrange with reception in advance). This is around 35 minutes drive from the accommodation. We were offered to be taken to a supermarket on the way to buy supplies as the accommodation is in a remote area. This was very helpful. The driver was prompt and gave us a smooth and comfortable ride both ways. The accommodation was exactly as I'd hoped- in a quiet area, warm, spacious and looking especially attractive in the snow! The thatched roof was so interesting to see. The bamboo woods at the side were so pretty and the nearby river and hills too. After visiting Tokyo and Kyoto, this was fantastic downtime. It was so peaceful and the only time we had to think about was when our dinner was going to be delivered to the chalet. Perfect!! We wish we had booked to stay longer!

We stayed at Mutoya for two nights. The house is quite far from the famous Kayabuki-no-Sato village, so I recommend this lovely house to people who wish to experience life as it really is in Miyama without the tourists. The house is old but carefully maintained, and has everything you need for a long stay. (A washing machine, kettle, microwave and auch) We were able to borrow bicycles for free since we stayed for two consecutive nights. They also let us use their telescope, and since it was a full moon night, we also enjoyed moongazing at night. Breakfast is self-catered with locally produced milk, eggs, toast and jam. For dinner we ordered a set meal and Sukiyaki. A local cook will come and set the table for you. Hand-drip local coffee and tea are also available for free. During our stay, we spent time appreciating not only the old thatched house itself but also the local blessings that have been nurtured by the locals for a long time. We walked the neighborhood, took pictures, watched the moon over the porch, visited another old house cafe nearby, chatted around the fireplace, read books, or did nothing but lie on the tatami mats and relax. The Internet environment is also available, so it is recommended for workcation.

This is the best guesthouse we've ever stayed in. Not only does the exterior retain the traditional Gassho-style architecture, but the interior is also very modern and beautiful! The owner's service was incredibly thoughtful! We had a wonderful evening! We used the kitchen to cook our hot pot dinner and bought lots of cheap ingredients at the nearby convenience store, which was super convenient! Of course, the dinner provided by the owner was also delicious! We enjoyed our meal in the living room and the view outside. We all agreed that this was the best guesthouse we've stayed in during our trip to Japan. There's even a large lawn outside for the kids to play! It would be even more beautiful if it snowed! We'll definitely be back!

The surroundings and accommodations were great. Perhaps it was the wrong season, but unfortunately we weren't able to let our dog run wild in the spacious dog run. The dog run is located on the other side of the canal. There are two bridges over the canal, and both of them have signs saying "Watch out for snakes!" Since I have a small toy poodle, I was too scared to let him play in the dog run. The grass was neatly mowed, though. There were air conditioners in the two Japanese-style rooms, but one of them was mostly on the fan, so it was quite hot. This year may have been exceptional. Renting the entire building is quite expensive, so my only request would be that they not require guests to lay out their own futons, since they know the number of guests in advance. Depending on the price, there's a clear distinction between what's acceptable and what's unacceptable about self-service. I hope this facility will encourage repeat visitors. While I feel like I've only written about my complaints, as I mentioned at the beginning, the facility is well-maintained and I felt like I was back in the countryside. It's a really nice place.
