Sun Retreats Texas Hill Country

I rented a cabin while our house was being completed. When I rented i specifically asked if my closing happened before my checkout date could I get refunded the balance from when I checked out. The woman said absolutely. Well I went to go turn my keys in and get the 12 days refunded but was told they would not refund anything. They tried to keep my key so they could rent the cabin out and double the profit for those 12 days. Very dishonest people working the counter. I would have never stayed knowing I wouldn’t get a refund when I closed on my home.

Beware of their cancellation policy. I was charged upfront for my stay at the park. Had a zero balance due. I had to cancel the trip and did so 4 days prior to arrival date. According to them I would have had to cancel 14 days out to receive a refund. I would expect a percntage of the total to be forfeited but not the entire $333.00. Obviously, they have no conern for their customers. They are just money hungry.

We have been coming here for years, mainly for Wurstfest. Since the sale to holding company we have seen a downturn in the upkeep of the property. However the main concern is that it doesn’t seem to be for traveling or weekend RVers. Most of the units have and are set up for long term and even permanent housing. We even saw at least 2 RV apar**ent units. It was a fifth wheel that had about 6 doors (on each side) and separate units for ppl to sleep in. The spa at the Lone Star building was EMPTY, guess that don’t even have it available for anyone to use. Many of the FTers had junk everywhere. The ladies that checked us in and we talked to on the phone we’re very nice. Sun Country has run this property into the ground and ****** the life out of it.

We normally like Sun Outdoors, but the noise at this campground was the worst we have ever experienced. We were in site 80 and just left (checked out 2 days early which means a forfeit of about $140). From the interstate, train and sirens this was not my idea of camping.

We just returned from 3 night stay. I always experience anxiety re: looks and cleanliness.This place exceeded our expectations. We stayed in pecos cabin. It was small but super clean and well appointed. The bathroom small but doabable. They have handicap toilets which is just a nice touch. They have really paid attention to details.Grounds very well maintained.We enjoyed pools and hot tub. Great location. We will definately stay again when in the area

This facility really has potential- the downfall is the staff and lack of customer service. The first time we stayed here, we booked with several other families, requesting to be next to each other when we came. The staff told us that it would be no problem, however, when we got there, they gave us a really hard time about grouping us or even putting us in the same area of the campground. This was not a holiday weekend, it wasn’t overly crowded. The next time, I booked a 5 day weekend and then asked to extend my stay for one month. I was told by their agent that they do not allow campers over 10 years old to stay monthly. I submitted photos of my camper, asked what their reasoning was, requested any type of explanation and all they can tell me is “this is Sun Outdoors policy- no exceptions.” I called the Sun Outdoors customer service line and they told me “if photos are submitted, and everything checks out, Sun Outdoors will happily accept campers over 10 years old,” but the Hill Country Sun Outdoors location refused to let me stay for one month. Oddly enough, they are happy to extend my stay to 2 to 3 weeks for an outrageous amount of money. My kids had a great time when we visited this establishment. They have a lot to offer. Unfortunately, they don’t seem concerned about having repeat customers. Isn’t this supposed to be a family friendly, fun place to visit that your family wants to come back to? I found several other campgrounds in the area that are happy to accommodate us.

I'll preface this review by saying that I am a bit of a neat freak. I dread staying away from home due to a major bug phobia and the thought of what kind of nastiness is lurking on the floors and in the beds. With that said, this place was IMMACULATE. Kudos to the housekeeping crew, because I literally couldn't find anything to be uptight about; I actually relaxed and enjoyed my stay here. We stayed in one of the cabins, which was well stocked with dishes, clean towels, toiletries, dish soap, and dishwasher detergent. YES, these have dishwashers! :) My two grown kids and I joked about how easy it would be to not go home and just live in the tiny house for a while. The ONLY bummer was that the sheets for the bunk beds were folded and placed on each bed, so my kids had to make their own beds. We floated the Comal and this place was just a few miles from Prince Solms Park, which was nice. I read a lot of bad reviews about the staff, but that wasn't my experience. No, they weren't jumping for joy, but who does that at work? They were pleasant and did their jobs, which is exactly what I expect. The check in and check out processes are incredibly fast and easy if you've booked your stay online. We will definitely visit again; in fact, my daughter has plans to stay at least once more with friends this summer. If you have an RV you may have a different experience, as that seems to be where most of the negative reviews come from. My cabin experience, though, was a 10/10.
