The Smugglers

The Smuggers is lovely little B&B in Newlyn, just outside of Penzance. We were very impressed by the immaculate service, nicely appointed rooms, hospitality, friendly owners, cleanliness and excellent breakfast. Newlyn is a little village with a fishing port, a fish market and a number of fish mongers. It serves as a depot supplying fish in the locale. If we hadn't lived so far away, I would have loved to buy some fresh fish to take home! The village is an easy walk to Penzance or Mousehole and not far by car to St Michael's Mount, Land's End and St Ives.

I didn't like anything about this property. Unwelcome arrival. Was not given the room shown in the photograph. Accessed by a steep set of open wooden steps outside the property. Room smelt stale. Mismatched cheap dated furniture. Sat on bed, very uncomfortable.

The hosts were lovely. Clean, safe, comfortable, good common area includes fridge, glasses, plates & cutlery. Delicious breakfasts with a view of the colourful boat harbour. The pub in Mousehole (5 min walk) was good. Parking is a short distance away but make sure you have cell / text service to use the parking app in case the only machine in the lot isn't working as the next lot is 2 miles away! Would stay here again!!!

We stayed for 4 nights, felt very welcomed from Steve and Barbara, room excellent and lots of very thoughtful touches, e.g. cold milk and water left in fridge. Breakfast is very special - a wonderful menu, curated and executed by a top notch chef. We will definitely return.

We really enjoyed our stay. A very warm welcome on arrival. Our sea view room was very well equipped and nicely furnished. Breakfast menu was better than many 5 star hotels and the food was excellent and well presented. Great value for money lovely hosts. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

We only stayed one night and were up early to catch onward transport. Clean and all you need for a quick stay. Although the room we had only has French doors to the room and is over looked by other properties, if worried about privacy you would need to keep the curtains closed, could do with some sort of net curtains to cover door while still letting in natural light. But a overall welcoming and comfortable.

One of the best The owners and staff were really friendly and there was great attention to detail. The location is stunning, and the town has everything you'd want including great restaurants and a lovely cinema.
