The Whaler

One of the better medium range old coast hotels to stay at, we enjoyed the ocean view above all else. The rooms are a bit small, and water damaged doors need replacing, but the room served us well for our 2 nights there. I will mention the VERY comfortable beds were a little high for short statured people, a tad difficult to hoist yourself up onto them. I'm sure we will be back in the near future.

This is the third stay at the Whaler for my wife & me, one of many for her, as her family came here for getaways. The ocean view is great & the Whaler’s just across the street from the beach, but the place is average now (although under renovation)—the beds & bathroom look clean, but the room’s musty. We were put in a pet-friendly room & charged a significant fee although we didn't have a pet with us, & told the front desk that when we made our reservation. When my wife asked about the fee & mentioned the musty smell, they removed the pet fee but told her, “We would have given you a better room if we’d known you didn’t have a pet”. So we paid full price on what even the Whaler even said was a second rate room for having a pet we didn’t bring! When asked if we wanted housekeeping during our stay, we said yes—but never got it. Lastly, there are no blackout curtains, so if you’re not a heavy sleeper, prepare to put a pillow over your eyes bright & early; and when you get up, there’s coffee & juice for breakfast. We skipped more sightseeing after checking out, since we were sleep-deprived & just wanted to head home & rest. Overall, not a great value for the price. Update: When I gave this review, verbally, while checking out, when asked about our experience. The manager apologized for the unhappy experience and comped our room. Thank you for taking previously happy customers' complaints seriously and making it right.

The view of the ocean from our room was fantastic. The room was very clean and spacious. It was close to the things we wanted to do and staff pointed out some other interesting things in town. A little warm due to no air conditioning but a fan was provided in our room. Also gave us an adjoining room with the couple we were traveling with without even requesting which was nice. Would stay again if in the area.

Some of the room was updated. Beautiful views Bathtub needed to be refinished. Both doors were in poor condition. Popcorn ceilings. Fan and ironing board legs rusted. The bed was confortable.

Loved our stay! Such nice staff, great indoor pool & jacuzzi; nice walk to beach. I understand they are planning some serious renovations. My only problem was the bathroom: the toilet is SO low! Okay if you have great knees but a challenge otherwise. The shower definitely needs some updating. But the view from our balcony was AMAZING! And we loved the popcorn and take out breakfast ♥️ Thank you!

When we arrived Sunday for our 3 day stay and their vacancy sign said, "Sorry." We had just found out that our son was going to be nearby that weekend. When we checked in, we asked if we could extend our stay through Saturday. The clerk promptly started hunting to get us a room. After finding a room, we were told we might have to move to a different room Wednesday, which was no problem. In the end, we didn't even have to move from our room. We needed some clean towels, asked, and had them in just a few minutes. Same with toilet paper. I definitely would recommend this place.

It was very accommodating. The staff was friendly, easy access to the beach and close by shopping and dining. incredible views of the ocean and beach.

Across the street from the ocean A Pet friendly is ok but we didn't have a pet and got a pet room which had a smell and spots all over the worn carpet. Pet bed on the floor with bowl and bags. F- They did deduct from our bill when we checked out which I appreciated. A If I were to go to Newport again, I would look for a different place to stay. It definitely needs to be upgraded. Too low of toilets for a 75-year-old couple. Just old and smell of dog. So overall grade from me would be a C-.
