Hydrangea House Inn

Had a small road trip with daughter recently and stayed at the HHI for the weekend. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Everything was clean and comfortable . The room was spacious and the bathroom was modern and clean. The mattress was comfortable and we both slept well. Breakfast was very nice. The afternoon wine and cheese could have been a slightly larger spread. The parking lot in the back was very convenient. It was a little over 1 mile to the Cliff Walk and many of the mansions We walked the entire time and it was a very pleasant walk . The location is great! There are many restaurants within walking distance . We would certainly stay again if we are in the area.

This was a wonderful B&B to stay in Newport! Our room was very comfortable, so cozy! The daily breakfast option with two different time slots was so perfect and each meal was amazing! The happy hour nightly from 4-6pm along with nighttime cookies was a perfect touch. Everywhere was walkable and easy to access. The staff was perfect, friendly, and went out of their way to make sure our stay was comfortable. We even had a late flight out and they allowed us to stay in our room until we needed to leave. I would highly recommend this stay for anyone coming to Newport!!

The Hydrangea House Inn is in a perfect location! It is walking distance to restaurants, stores, the mansions etc. However, the Inn seems to have lost some of its charm. There was no owner on site, just a manager who was terrific but seemed overwhelmed. The Inn is in need of repair. The room that we booked was simply awful. It smelled old and musty, the couch and chairs were new thirty years ago. The cushions sagged. I immediately told my husband that if they did not have another room, we were leaving. It was that bad! Luckily, they did have another room and they moved us. This room was better, for sure, but still badly needed care. There was no hook in the bathroom to hang even one towel, the mirror in the bedroom was dusty, the sink in the bathroom was peeling, the steam shower did not steam. There was little hot water throughout our entire stay. My showers were lukewarm at best. All point to the need for an owner on site. I cannot imagine that an owner who cared about the property would simply let it fall into disrepair. It has so much potential. I will say that breakfast both days were very good. We did not partake in the wine and cheese hour. We peeked in one day and there were no utensils to serve ourselves with so we decided to not take the chance of the items being unsanitary. MY husband attempted to grab two packages of cookies one evening and was told that there was only one package per room. I do not eat cookies and it was fine with me for him to eat the 2 small cookies himself but at $400 a night, they certainly should be able to afford to provide each room with two packages. Interestingly enough, the very same cookies that were there the evening before was in the same dish the next morning. I assume that the were conserving them to re-serve the next day. Not sure, but am sure that this is not the Inn for us. If we return to Newport, we will seek another option.

This was a true B&B experience! I hope to return one day! The breakfast was delicious and wonderful! The room was amazing! The staff was accommodating. It’s definitely worth the look to stay here!

Centrally located Bed and Breakfast with parking. The room was dated but had a nice fireplace suite. Our bed did not have a comforter? And the breakfast was average. We interacted with Rob on the first day and he was quite un-helpful. Did the bare minimum. The owner is nice and accommodating.

Friendly staff, large/clean rooms.

We stayed in the Hydrangea Suite for three nights. The Inn was nicely located, quiet, and clean. The owners were nice. Breakfast was delicious. There were a couple porches on the back that we enjoyed in the evenings. And there was more-than-ample parking. But there were some negatives. Our "all marble bathroom" was wallpapered and had a dated fiberglass shower enclosure. The "steam" in the "steam shower" didn't steam. The vanity light switch caused the GFI breaker to pop about half the time. The AC was installed in a hole that looks like a child carved it and was plugged into an outlet with no cover. The tub surround was to high and wide to allow one to step into the tub but it was too narrow and uneven to allow one to "sit and spin". We never once got the nightly turndown service with the promised chocolate chip cookies. We tried to watch a movie one rainy night only to find that the Inn had no premium cable channels; not even HBO, for instance. And our room was never cleaned before about 1:45 in the afternoon. None of the negatives would keep us from going back but we'd have been disappointed if we were motivated to stay there by a few of these things.
