We booked a last minute stay last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our visit! Unfortunately it was the Isle of Wight festival weekend so we didn't manage to get a Seaview room but we will deffo opt for that next time as the views from this hotel are fantastic! It is in the perfect location with beautiful costal paths right outside down to the beach. (Or the Clift lift which we found fascinating) The rooms are a little out dated but that didn't bother us and they are kept very clean! The breakfast was spot on with plenty of choice on the menu and the reception ladies were all fab...we had some lovely chats with them! ...See you next year Ocean View!!

Stayed here recently for a few days with a coach party of friends. The room was comfortable , but needs a bit of tlc, fantastic view. The hotel is not geared up for people with mobility issues, though there is a ramp up to the main entrance & a lift to the rooms, but then there are stairs to get to your room once out of the lift, some areas are only accessible by stairs. The food was good, though very limited choice, but what there was was ok. Staff overall very friendly, though the manager did refer to our group as “a bunch of boring buggers” , so if you have mobility problems or don’t want to be insulted by the manager then this isn’t the place for you!!

I have just returned from four nights at this hotel. The first half is good. Large twin room, lots of storage, two double wardrobes, big bathroom with bath and shower, clean bedding and balcony with sea view. The evening meals were excellent, even for a coach trip the choices were always different and no one had a meal they didn't say was first class. I had the vegetarian options and really enjoyed them. The bar is big and comfortable with with some sofa and easy chair options. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The second half is not good The room was really shabby. One door on each wardrobe was almost impossible to open, and one wardrobe had the shelves missing. The bedside tables were pitted and chunks missing, (a bit of fablon would have sorted that!). The curtains had the fixings missing on the ends that met, so they dropped down. The bathroom lino was badly stained and the inside of the door at the bottom had chunks of paint missing. The iron railing on the balcony was just rust and cobwebs. There was a very tiny bar of soap in the bathroom but if you wanted a mini shower gel that was at reception. No tissues in the bathroom. No phone in the room. The whole room needed painting and a bit of TLC. The breakfasts were a disaster, no cohesion in serving in rotation. Breakfast was at 8am but by ten past it was about ready. You could serve yourself cereal or watery porridge, but no bread, rolls, pastries or toaster. Everything else had to be ordered, you could order one croissant, but when a chap asked for two he was told they would check to see if he could be made an exception! Our driver spent most of the time chasing our orders because we had a time schedule. This was done on the cheap (as was the rest of the hotel)to stop people helping themselves and maybe taking extra food. The servers were working as hard as they could but obviously had no leadership or training. The drinks were odd, all wine came in individual bottles, no chance of a small or large glass, one size of a generic wine or none. No point in ordering a drink at the table because the one barman didn't have time to deliver them. One chap had a drink and asked for ice and the one and only barman had to go and hunt for it. There was no tea or coffee behind the bar. There was a cafe somewhere that sold teas and coffees in the hotel but had erratic hours and was not open in the evening. The reception would serve coffee until 8pm but we were not lucky enough to have one as their machine was broken. The explanation was that the owner didn't want a machine in the bar, which makes no sense as coffee is a good way to get profit. The tea and coffee in the room was undrinkable. The whole hotel feels like it's been done on the cheap and is desperately in need of an upgrade to freshen it up.

My wife and I stayed at the Ocean View Hotel, Shanklin, on our first trip to the Isle of Wight, for seven days in second week of May. The weather was excellent, warm and sunny. We had a premium, spacious, ground level sea view room, which was a joy to stay in. The view was spectacular. The room opened on to a patio and garden area outside which was clean, very pleasant and very quiet. The Shanklin lift to the esplanade was in front of the hotel making the beach easily accessible. The Hotel staff and manager were all very helpful, welcoming and extremely friendly. Thank you to Sandy for your assistance with booking and ferry tickets for our trip. The Hotel was exceptionally quiet, which gave us a very peaceful and relaxing stay. We had the hotel’s indoor heated swimming pool all to ourselves twice, which was fabulous. I would recommend this hotel. Many thanks to everyone at the Ocean View Hotel, Shanklin, for making our holiday so enjoyable, relaxing and so very special.

If you are after perfection then this probably isn’t the place for you. However, if you want staff that, from your initial telephone enquiry to the minute you leave for home, bend over backwards to fulfill your every wish and give you a memorable holiday then this is the place to go. Good size room, clean, comfortable and lovely view. Food tasty. Pool very relaxing. We had the accessible room and it was exactly that.

Very rude staff esp in the restaurant. 3 of us stayed and stay included breakfast but they served only 2 ppl that too with shortages of bread toast. When asked they said they will charge extra inspite of paying £210 per night. Receptionist was not friendly too. No hot water in the shower in the morning. When we complained they just said they will make a bit of this in diary and no action taken.

We went as part of a coach trip and couldn't fault the hotel in any way. From the welcome by the manager to the goodbyes from the staff everything was friendly and efficient. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The sea views were stunning. Staff were incredibly helpful and cheerful. Entertainment was fun and the bar, coffee shop and reading room were available for everyone and well stocked and run. A special mention to the waiting staff in the restaurant and in particular the chef. The meals were of the highest quality and a choice of options meant everyone was catered for. Thank you for a very enjoyable short stay. Highly recommended.

We recently had a children's birthday Pool Party here. Although we didn't stay overnight in the hotel, being local, I have to say that the service we had from Sarah and Liz was outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble and done with enthusiasm and a smile. The children had a fabulous time in the pool, followed by lunch in the Coffee Shop. I can highly recommend this venue and would definitely book here again for a stress free children's party.
