Vane House B&B

I'm grateful to anyone who provides B&B along the UK's long-distance trails, as they open up the walks to 'softies' like me who don't want to camp. And I'm doubly grateful to those who've kept going despite the Covid-19 pandemic. Having said that, Vane House was the most expensive accommodation we stayed in as we walked the Cleveland Way, but offered the least. The owner was friendly but business-like, so no warm welcome with a cup of tea & slice of cake in the lounge as in other B&Bs on our route. Just a queue of guests waiting outside the front door to check in at 4pm, and a quick "hello and here's your key". Our room was really small, but clean with an up-to-date shower room. Rather than staggering breakfast times as other B&Bs had done to enable social distancing, the owner offered a 'take-out' breakfast in a bag which was rather disappointing. I'm still grateful that Vane House was functioning and offered a bed for the night, but do feel it was over-priced compared to other accommodation on our route.

This property has a cottage as described by Sykes,attached to the property described as open plan it's a converted bedroom complete with hair dryer attached to the wall consisting of a kitchen with coffee maker with no coffee no tea towels no foil cling film and half of a kitchen roll the partition was a unit with a small freezer the living area was smaller than a dentist waiting room containing a 2 seater setee with a TV the size of a postage stamp which by the way didn't work due to a transmitter catching fire the outside area was described as patio/ garden, it was a small alleyway with a wall The bedroom was reached via a freezing cold fire escape and up some stairs it was to be fair immaculate complete with brand new shower and toilet other than that it was abysmal avoid at all cost

Centrally located, beside convenience store. Lovely room with much appreciated coffee maker. Delicious breakfast included. Heated drying rack, very clean and host very hospitable, organized. Highly recommend.

Boked 4 nights at the Vane House apartment. Alan was a very nice man and very helpful. The property is modern, well decorated and has everything you could ask for in self catering. The apartment could be described as a little quirky but it works well and is very comfortable. Osmotherly is a bit quiet especially in the evening but is a very pretty village .I can definitely recommend a stay here.

Self-contained apartment/annexe- nice and private - Stayed three nights over the new year - Alan was very helpful and provided milk bread and butter and even encouraged us to arrive early. I think he divides the property up in different ways at times, but we had a kitchen and a small living room at the rear of the property with a bathroom and bedroom upstairs - all very clean and excellent bathrooms and just what you need for a walking holiday with a small dog - we put her bed in the tiled hall leading to the stairs. Car parking in the gated courtyard with remote. it's not exactly a cottage and definitely not a B&B, but very well-located and comfortable. The only small improvements I would suggest are the bed could have been larger given the size of the room - The standard bed was comfortable, and the only other issue was how high the TV in the living area was- only watched the news with breakfast, but it is bizarrely high. Would I stay again in this lovely walking area Yes! 3 pubs with food dog friendly very close by, nice shop next door - tea room around the corner. The only local I would avoid is the Fish and Chip shop that from the reviews I was looking forward to!
