Hotel Rural San Anton

After spending two sleepless nights in el centro, I needed a place away from rooftop bars and loud people coming and going all night. The Rural San Anton was perfect. The next day I caught a second class bus north from a place a few blocks away with the help of Antonio. He is the most helpful Hotel owner ever. There are tasty tacos, etc. nearby. I would give this place a 5 if it didn't cost me 150 pesos to get there in a taxi and there weren't mosquitos in the room. If you are driving this would be perfect. In May 2021 it cost $24.

It is a family hotel. Really nice and the manager with her wife and dad are so kind.

Hospitality is the key word for this small family run hotel. We were unable to get a hotel closer to the heart of town (booked too late for Day of the Dead holiday), and ended up choosing Rural after reading TripAdvisor reviews. Owner Antonio was warm, extremely helpful and friendly, and just a wonderful host. Communication was easy (we don’t, unfortunately, speak Spanish) - he went out of his way to communicate with us in English. Rooms are basic, but very clean, and quiet. Shower was wonderful, bathroom modern and just what we needed. As noted in an earlier review, note that you will be taking taxis to get into town. Furthermore, nearby eateries exist, but are not set up for tourists, so be prepared to communicate in Spanish (we did our best!). Overall, it was a great experience, truly local/Oaxacan. Cannot say enough about our gracious host Antonio and his family!
