Since it opened in 1912 Hotel Maria Cristina a Luxury Collection Hotel has been intimately linked to the history and cultural life of San Sebastian. In the late 19th century the seaside town on the southern point of the Bay of Biscay became a favorite destination for royalty and aristocrats who came to enjoy the sunshine and newly recognized therapeutic properties of sea bathing. Exceptional service from a grand hotel The location is very good and the rooms, public areas and surrounding neighborhood are the best. All of this, of course comes with a high price. The breakfast buffet was high quality and the choices were broad. We had one dinner in The Gallery Restaurant, which is somewhat oddly in the public area at the end of the hall. It worked for us.

HMC is a beautiful hotel in a great location, but what made our stay exceptional was the head concierge, Maria’s service. My husband and I travel quite a lot and have used hotel concierge’s frequently, but Maria’s service is far and away the best we have ever experienced. Truly top notch information, organization (transport, reservations) and especially communication. Her dedication to her craft is crystal clear. Thank you Maria, our San Sebastián trip was epic, largely because of you!

The Maria Christina is one of the most luxurious places I have stayed in Spain. Large rooms, river views, convenient to the beaches and the old town. The staff were knowledgable and friendly and always at hand to help. Excellent breakfast buffet and a small but charming bar.
