For the most part, this was a lovely stay in a really interesting property, full of character. The Ramblewood Inn was a particular highlight with great food and lovely staff - thank you! Spa facilities were a nice distraction from events of the day. Here’s where the whole visit was let down. The stay was booked as a double heritage room for ‘up to two guests’ through a company portal. Two guests were greeted at reception, two guests presented at the spa and two guests made a reservation for dinner. No issues, lovely and genuine staff. However, upon heading downstairs for breakfast, a particularly blunt and unpleasant fellow said that breakfast was booked for only one and, should two people wish to dine, he’d have to contact reception to add to the bill. He wasn’t interested in explanation or query. I appreciate that there can be misunderstandings or booking errors but this guy fell over himself to get this added to the bill and then further made his point by bringing only one (personal) pot of coffee to the table… hang on, if you’re adding an additional breakfast to the bill, surely I’ve paid for the additional coffee? Felt churlish and almost personal. To add insult to injury, the charge? £5. My latest project requires additional days in Peterborough over the course of 6 weeks and you’ve lost my custom over £5? Disappointing.
