Mercure Tokyu Stay Osaka Namba

Great hotel, great location. Comfortable beds. My room had a view of the bustling street which was an added plus. It is true that everything is very dark, so I had difficulty finding the light switch for one of the lights, as the switch was black on a black shelf. The corridors are also very dark so it may be hard to find your way to your room the first time but after that its ok. I don't mind the darkness, you get used to it after a while. Front desk stuff were ok - not exceptionally friendly, but adequate.

Loved how convenient the location was — everything was close by and easy to get to. The room was nice and cosy, and surprisingly quiet. With the windows closed, we couldn’t hear any outside noise at all. Would definitely stay again during our next visit. 😎😎

This hotel is truly splendid! From the moment we arrived, a staff member guided us to the reception. Many staff speak English and are very helpful, which makes check-in smooth and comfortable for tourists. The 2nd floor has a great common area with a pool table, gym, smoking room, and plenty of tables, chairs, and sofas where you can relax or hang out. There’s also a wide range of useful items available for guests to borrow — hair curlers, nail clippers, charging cables and more. The location is unbeatable too. A convenience store is right outside the hotel, and it’s just a short walk to both Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori — perfect for shopping and food. One thing I really appreciated: the room fridge doesn’t have a freezer, and I bought ice cream. The staff kindly stored it in their freezer and gave me a tag to collect it anytime. So thoughtful! Other helpful facilities: • Luggage weighing scale on the 1st floor • Microwave, forks, spoons, and wet tissues available downstairs • Daily mineral water and towel replenishment We booked a family room and loved the convenience of having a washing machine inside — we washed and dried clothes every day! The shower and toilet are also separated, which is wonderful for families. The amenities are top-notch too — hairdryer, curler, and shower head are all from Refa. Very premium and nice to use! Overall, we had such a comfortable and happy stay. We absolutely loved it here and would definitely come back again! ❤️

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The service from the “Duty Manager,” **************, was extremely disappointing — she was unfriendly, unhelpful, inflexible, and unprofessional, with a very stubborn attitude. The room lighting was extremely dim and dark, making it difficult to apply makeup or even see inside your luggage. There was also no full-length mirror available, which is very inconvenient, especially for female guests. Overall, a very frustrating experience. The breakfast tasted terrible and offered very few options. We expected much more, especially given the high price we were charged.

After staying in a cheaper APA hotel in Tokyo, my partner and I were looking forward to a higher-end stay at the Mercure in Osaka. It was... okay. I'll start with the positives: the proximity to Dotonbori is the biggest plus. It's about a 3-minute walk to the main canal *****. The hotel is separated from the peak tourism chaos by a few streets, so it isn't too overwhelmingly busy around the hotel itself. Convenient FamilyMart and 7-Eleven options are nearby, as you'd expect. The room was clean. The Italian restaurant on the 2nd floor was also quite lovely and well-priced. Now the negatives. First, the lighting was so dim in the hallways and the room itself that it was less "pleasant mood lighting" and more "I can't see anything/do my makeup." I actually thought some of the lightbulbs were blown, but my partner pointed out they were just absurdly dim. Secondly, the door to the bathroom/shower was broken and wouldn't stay shut, so we had to use a few heavy items on the floor to keep it closed. Some of the USB outlets were also non-functioning. Thirdly - and this may be our fault - the washer-dryer combo machine in our room (which was a big reason for us booking this hotel) was finicky to use and only had Japanese labels/instructions. The room guide on the smart TV did have some instructions, but we struggled to operate the machine regardless. Then, after we worked it out, the drying cycle shrunk and heavily wrinkled our clothes. This wouldn't be the end of the world, but the room had no iron or ironing board. You have to go to reception to hire an iron separately or use the "iron room," which we never saw the inside of because it was locked every time we tried the door. None of these drawbacks were trip-ruining or anything, and in a cheaper 3-star hotel, we wouldn't be clutching our pearls about it. But because this is a pricier 4-star, internationally-known hotel brand, we expected more. Overall, the stay was not unpleasant, but it was nothing to write home about either.

1. Located in the heart of Osaka. 5minutes walk to Shinsabashi, train station & 9Dotonburi. Daimaru and Parco also nearby. 2. Hotel is ready for Halloween the whole day. Dimly lighted entrance to reception. Lift lobby was so dark & gloomy that at 1st thought it was a love hotel. Dont expect to find your things if you drop them in the corridor. Is it a strategy to conserve energy? 3. Hotel room was terrible. The worst I ever stayed. Lightings were poor. No proper lights. Only spotlights. Be prepared to squeeze your eyes and stand while you do your skincare. Staff could only offer another lamp when I wanted to change to a brighter room. Trust me, the room had poor lightings and definitely bad for our eyes and my 2 elders. 4. Bathroom & toilet. Probably designed for sole traveller. There were no hook or hanger inside for you to hang your clothes or towel. Get ready for them to get wet while you shower & you can simply put them into the laundry after that. Use your creativity to put your bath items in the bathroom without getting wet. 5. Trash bin was so small. Can't find your empty instant noodle. Quite pathetic. 6. Breakfast menu was super boring. Not worth the money spent. Had 6 days of same breakfast. Don't mention the coffee. It was horrible. Nil variations in the breakfast menu. Everyday eat same food. Is the team bored of preparing same food everyday? Or is there a promotion for bulk purchase?
