Otterburn Castle

Stayed for two night - can't say enough about the place, its absolutely stunning, room was spotless, breakfast was very good with lots of choice and set in beautiful grounds. The owner Ellie was so helpful and friendly, had lots of chats with her and she even ironed my shirt for the wedding i was attending. Would highly recommend if you are staying in or around the area

The most unpretentious, friendly place we’ve ever stayed. Elena, Alex and Debbie we so welcoming, making us feel like the castle was home from home, and nothing was too much trouble. We stayed in a double room with a z-bed for our daughter. It was very roomy and comfortable with a huge bed and well equipped bathroom. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of choice. Thank you so much Elena, Alex and the team for a lovely stay.

Friendly staff with warm welcome. Everything you would want and expect from a stay at a castle. Breakfast was delightful with excellent service. Room was large and comfortable. We enjoyed the interaction with the 2 cats who also call Otterburn Castle their home.

Amazing people great food wished we were able to stay longer recommended

We were looking forward to staying in the castle, the night before attending a wedding in the village. After looking at the pictures on the website, we felt £160 was expensive, but hopefully worth the money for the experience.. Disappointed in the room, is an understatement! We contacted the hotel on our return to advise them that we felt the room, especially the bathroom, was not clean, in fact I would say the bathroom was disgusting. Black mould everywhere! The windows hadn't been cleaned for years, Tea and coffee spills and damp on the walls. I took a picture of the pile of dust we collected from the picture frame. Their response? "Although they (the housekeeper and manager) have noted your complaint they did not agree with your comments about the room". I understand it's a very old building, which should add to the charm, but there is no excuse for dirty rooms. I wish we had stayed in one of the rooms that they advertise! Our friends also stayed. They complained at the time, but it all fell on deaf ears. I'll leave you to look at the photos to make your own mind up. (Struggling to upload pictures but will keep trying)

It's a beautiful, quiet place in the country with wonderful, caring staff. Elly, Alex, and Ivan were great. Our kids loved that they could spend a night in a castle. We also took a lovely walk on the grounds.

We received a very warm and friendly welcome on arrival at the hotel. Our room was spacious, with a huge bathroom, but both were warm and cosy despite the low temperatures outside, and everything was very clean. Our large, four-poster bed was comfortable. The floors do creak a bit, and we knew every time someone passed outside our room, but it is an old building, so that's just part of the character. There were a couple of chairs in the room, but I would have liked something a bit larger and more comfortable - the room is big enough to take it! The wood-paneled restaurant is cosy and intimate, and there is a good menu, with enough choice to cover dining on successive nights. The wine list is very good, and reasonably priced. One thing to watch out for is that the bar is closed an hour or so after the restaurant empties, so you may want to order another drink when asked. Breakfast is very good, with a good choice of fruit juices and hot and cold items, and the cooked food is perfectly cooked and presented. Despite there being very few staff - mainly Elena and her son Alex - service is friendly, prompt and efficient. The Castle is in a remote spot, but is actually within easy driving distance to quite a few attractions, such as Cragside, Wallington and Belsay. We really enjoyed our stay and will, hopefully, be back again.
