We have been lucky enough to visit Matangi multiple times before and have ALWAYS enjoyed our time there. While we certainly enjoyed our trip once again (who wouldn’t given the locale and the staff) however we have noticed a significant decline in the kitchens attention to detail - notably NOT paying attention to guests food allergies and not preparing food / meat to the wellness requested etc. Disappointing and dangerous!!!! Guests are always asked about food allergies - typically upon arrival- and my understanding is that guest allergies are documented on a board in the kitchen but the kitchen staff served allergens anyway! There was only a maximum of 16 or 18 guests while we were there-you would think something like food allergies could be monitored. We heard other couples who experienced this issue as well. This could be dangerous!!! So self monitoring and repeatedly question is your best bet. This needs to be reminded before something really bad happens! Being welcomed by familiar and smiling faces is a great way to start a vacation! We were thrilled to be welcomed back by BiBi********, John, Tim, and the smiling ladies at the Spa. It is truly these remarkable individuals and other staff members that make a visit to Matangi memorable.

I have been waiting to write this review since we first left the island (a whopping 4 hours ago). If you have any doubts in your mind where to book, Matangi is IT. As soon as you arrive in Nadi you take another smaller plane (about 1.2 hours) and transfer to a van directly at the airport, then onto the resort boat. You don't touch your luggage once you leave Nadi. The entire staff takes care of EVERYTHING from transfer to getting into your room. Once you arrive you're greeted with staff, a traditional song, necklaces and food. You don't have to lift a finger at this resort if you don't want to. Every morning you have breakfast, pick your lunch, dinner and look over the daily activities. Activities range from snorkeling twice a day, diving, hiking, island tours, pearl farm excursions, fishing charters.. you name it they probably have it. They spa is to DIE for. I did two treatments: a couples massage and a facial. The facial was my FAVORITE. It left me feelings so clean and relaxed for the week ahead. The women in the spa have my heart. The entire staff treats you like family. My favorite part was the willingness to share their culture. Christmas Eve we have children from a local island come sing Christmas carols, another evening they did traditional Fiji dances. The Fijian people are the kindest people I have ever met, they will be dearly missed. Counting down the days until our next trip. Vinaka Matangi island staff.

Everything about our visit was special. We expected to be treated like family by the wonderful Fijians because of our previous trips there. But they seemed even a bit more friendly and personable if that's possible. What we appreciated most was the smallness of the resort, which meant a lot of lone time, uncrowded excursions (especially the free twice-daily snorkeling trips) , and getting to know the other travelers. We also thought that their food was the best that we've ever had at a resort. The Fijians will leave a lasting impression on us.

We left our hearts in Matangi Private Island Resort. If you're a couple looking for a unique experience to detach from reality, surround yourselves with 5 star service with staff who truly makes an effort to know you and your preferences, this is the place for you! My husband and I had a delayed honeymoon and we booked through Costco with the romance package- which we HIGHLY recommend. Once you arrive in Nandi, you hop on a small plane to Taveuni ( warning to those with vertigo or motion sickness, bring your dramamine and stay hydrated), transfer to a van ride, then a boat ride to the island diected by Jay and George - the boat is aluminum but don't let that discourage you! After a 10-15 minute boat ride you enter paradise. Upon arrival you're welcomed by the staff. With our Costco package we had fruits, water, and a feshly made smoothie waiting for us. Sireli and Tim welcomed us with open arms and we were presented refreshment towels - these smell HEAVENLY and you are given refreshment towels before lunch and dinner as well. Your accommodations are reviewed and you pick your meals from a set menu daily. The food is to die for. Everything is freshly made and locally sourced, kudos to the chef! The fruits taste so delicious, especially the Papaya. The bures are so quaint and comfy. You don't have central AC, mainly because the bures are well ventilated and the weather is perfect with a breeze. You have a canopy bed that has an AC unit to keep you cool at night, which helps you sleep through the night and yes, it feels as cold as your bed at home. Our romance package came with 1 breakfast in bed ( you pre order your meals and drinks), Horseshoe Bay for an afternoon- you choose AM or PM where you have priavate access to this world famous bay to kayak, snorkel, picnic, etc, 30 minute couples romance massage, and a private dinner. There are so many activities included in your reservation, like kayaking, snorkeling, medicine show, kava show- This is a MUST to participate in. Amelia or Bose at the acitivites hut will help you with getting your snorkel/ scuba gear, or you can chill by the pool and John can make you a drink from their menu or you can tell him a recipe of a drink you like and he'll make that too! John made my favorite for me, the classic French martini. Mere, Meredith, Mereani, Paulini, Matilda, and Serena took good care of us during our meals and always made sure we had what we needed. These ladies are always smiling, love to laugh, and are wonderful at their jobs. The spa is also to die for. Along with our 30 min romance massage we got the 1 hour bush steam massage and the milk and honey scrub with the hot stone massage. Jessy, Donna, or Jess will take very good care of you and you'll receive your spa services with the natural calming sounds of the wind and ocean waves- which beats a recording any day! We went to the spa 3 days straight. Also, they use pure fiji products which are amazing. We were able to gift some for f

Other islands in Fiji do it, but not with the style of Matangi. Just the sound of the crystal clear water and a sandy beach. Tiny hermit crabs are the only competition for amenities. Sorted out the snorkelling with Tom and a massage with Winnie. A friendly team who introduce themselves and get to know your name, all in a beautiful setting of an island that is close to pristine. Took the launch across to join the Mitchell family for Sunday morning church service & back for lunch. Lay back, enjoy the sun, time for excellent dinner and get ready for another busy Monday chilling out. What's a weekend! Photos can hardly do the island justice and can't reflect the welcome - or the emotion of departure! Not the easiest place to get to. Be aware of the light aircraft baggage allowances and plan accordingly, but well worth the effort.

Absolutely an amazing place. From the moment you step off the boat, you are greeted by Sisi and the rest of the staff. Being a small private resort, they focus on remembering your name and making you feel right at home. My wife and another couple stayed 1wk here and had one of the best trips ever. Fully recommend if your looking for a quiet romantic trip with awesome service. Will be back

After 28h journey from Dubai we reached paradise, Matangi Island. It was the perfect start for our honeymoon. The Hotel has 12 bures, which gives the feeling of intimacy and a family environment. The staff treats all the guest by name, and after one day even we knew all of the staff names and other guests. We stayed in a treehouse which was a fabulous experience! The interiors are 5 star and interior design magazine material. All of the resort was beautifully styled. Food was incredible! And the staff are incredible! I had tears in my eyes when we left! After experiencing 3 different hotels in Fiji, Matangi felt the most authentic! We only hope that we can return

We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at Matangi Private Island Resort and highly recommend it! The private island is absolutely beautiful. From the warm and friendly staff to the incredible food and relaxing atmosphere, this place is special for a reason. We opted for the “Romance Package” and were pampered with wonderful massages and a romantic dinner for two with the most incredible seafood feast. The highlight was our morning at Horseshoe Bay (in the book “1,000 Places to See Before You Die”) on the other side of the island. We had the entire bay to ourselves and made use of the paddle boards and kayaks and spent our time snorkeling and exploring. The staff arrived at lunchtime with a wonderful lunch and a cooler of beer! This is a once in a lifetime experience not to be missed.
