Great waitress, should be a stand-up comic! Very witty and quick-witted, very entertaining! Charming pub, tasty grub, delightful village. Some locally sourced produce, well executed, simple but good pub food. Nice venue, pretty location.

Very nice place with lots of history and character. Friendly, efficient staff and lovely breakfast. Bed was splendid and lovely view over topiary and church. Very clean and entertainingly sloping floors (given the age, to be expected). Would recommend a fridge.

This is a lovely inn with professional friendly service and really good food. We stayed one night and had a great room with a lovely view of the church yard. We had dinner there which was excellent and because it was a Sunday evening we each had a roast dinner. The breakfast in the morning was equally good. I would recommend staying here.

It is now three months since I was here, so I am now permitted to update my last review. They've put me in Balfour, a nice big room on the 2nd floor that I've stayed in before. As well as a great view over the church yard, it's got a lovely tiled fireplace, and a couple of armchairs. I like it a lot. The food is as good as I remember, if not better. I am almost exclusively vegetarian now, and their veggie full English breakfast is great. I also noted the pastries and yogurt at breakfast time, which are a nice touch. Sadly, there's been staff turnover recently, but Ollie, Hannah, Danni, and Cameron are still here, and there are new faces, including Emily, and a certain 22 year old, called Georgia, who thinks I'm "weird." I noticed the same lads in the kitchen, though, and my room is being cleaned to a high standard by Victoria, who also runs around barefoot, and so can only be Angie's daughter. I'm here for three nights, and this time, for the first time, I'm not in any hurry to fill my days. I didn't bring my sketch pad, and although I have my camera with me, there's no urgency about using it. Perhaps it's old age. I don't know. Perhaps I'm just learning to relax, at last... Fabulous food, freshly prepared and wonderfully presented. It was busy for a Monday evening which goes to show how popular it is. Attentive, friendly staff. Great choice on an extensive menu all reasonably priced. The fish pie was divine!

Generally a really nice inn with lovely staff, they made a big effort to make us feel welcome and were amazing with our little boy, our room was absolutely beautiful and located at the very back of the inn, there was a few things that could do with improving, the menu needs to include more classic meals like cottage pie, lasagna, curry etc and they could really do with revising the prices, I ordered a pie which ended up having crushed potatoes on top with a small amount of vegetables, this cost £19 which is way too expensive for what it was! In the morning they lay a lovely breakfast buffet and you can order anything from the hot menu, the breakfast was delicious however on two occasions the gentleman who took my order did not write it down and my breakfast was missing the best part, the bacon! The only other thing I didn’t like was the fact that the garden seating was directly outside of our ground floor room, we have a 11 month old son who kept getting disturbed in the evening due to the amount of noise, I have no problem with people enjoying the sunshine but the inn really needs to think of the guests and think of an alternative place for the seating! I would go back but I really think the above needs to be looked at.

Gorgeous and friendly inn with super- helpful staff, delicious food and a really good well priced wine list starring the Balfour wines but with something for everyone. Excellent menu with fresh ingredients really well prepared by someone who seriously knows what they are doing. Both supper and breakfast were a real treat. Beautiful and well equipped bedroom with glorious view over Painswick church. The charming and smiling staff give the place a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. We loved it and definitely will be back.

Terrible restaurant/pub. Not sure what it’s meant to be. Hardly a pub with a garden, fine if you like sitting outside on a side road with the smell of dirty cooking oils and fried food with a noisy buzzing fan. Whole place is filthy and seems to be a venue for its staff to hang out.
