Just one and half hours away from Udaipur is where I found peace, coupled with calm. Was I expecting it? No. The ride was easy, roads all clear and I thought considering the safari and all -the holiday could get hectic. But was so pleasantly surprised at this haven, nestled in between surrounding hills. A four room Villa, boundless space everywhere one looked. Just green, green and so damn pretty. The rain Gods had been kind to Rajasthan this year. I wanted to fit everything in as I had heard so much about Ranakpur. So here I was lodged in a beautiful villa, that came with its own personal valet. Reason, no phones, no Tvs, iffy wifi and none of the other trappings of daily life. I could get used to this. Solar heating took care of the heating, but the climate enthused me. It dipped by dusk and I could don my shawl.Something special fr a Mumbaiite. Fireplaces everywhere reminded one of the winters that could bite. Happiness overcame me. I was at the right place. What one can do besides feeling like this? well..to get the adrenaline pumping I went on the leopard Safari and scored. Got to see one of those beauties. And the whole experience is something to definitely write home about. Calmer was the drive to the Kumbalgarh fort (a unesco site) and it was a pleasure driving anywhere as I love road trips as its the only way to discover the countryside. The Ranakpur Temple is a must ofcourse. About the MountBatten Lodge, I cannot say enough. Beautifully maintained, with intricate details used in their hospitality, understanding their guest's profile, likes and dislikes, comfort meals cooked by their chef, the hosts undivided attention, it became an experience to remember. What would I suggest to other travellers? Take that road to Ranakpur You have no idea what you are missing!!
