A Total Nightmare with Impolite Treating! Avoid this Resort! 🛏️ Room Horror: Upon check-in, I stepped into a room that seemed to have hosted a wild party the night before. Unclean sheets, mysterious stains, and a lingering odor—my dream vacation turned into a cleaning mission. 🙅‍♀️ Customer Service Fail: The staff’s politeness? As elusive as a unicorn. No follow-ups, no apologies, and definitely no compensation for the breach of our agreement. 🤷‍♀️ blaming the victims for “purely unfortunate” in RED wordings 🚫 Avoid at All Cost please!

We liked the privacy and quietness and clean fresh unit we stayed in. The steps down were a little steep to access unit re being in our 70's. The dining area was lovely with great outlook. there was an awful outside light on the unit next door which shone directly into our windows at night. It would be better if it didn't stay on all night but was sensor only and switched off when no one entering the units during the night. Other than that it was a nice stay and perfect for our needs.

The island and resort are a stunning setting. The cocktails were good and the staff were friendly but unable to handle complaints. I room was on a very steep hill down from and therefore back up to reception and pool area. The room was clean and spacious but very dated. WiFi was adequate and balcony had beautiful views. Being a bank holiday weekend, the resort hosted a loud party by the pool. The pool area needs maintenance and the spa was dirty. We paid over NZ$100 to use the private hottub but they brought us the Prosecco included in the price and left it unopened some way from us. The private hot tub had also been used by some off the party guests so it got cold quickly. The pool area changing rooms were also dirty the next morning at 11:30. When we complained the staff just shrugged. Apparently breakfast was included on Sunday if you stayed on Saturday night but we weren’t told this until Monday on checkout. They did give us breakfast instead on Monday but only a choice of 3 basic things with no coffee included which we had to pay extra for. I would come back to the island but not this hotel.

Disclaimer: Waiheke Island Resort management will likely refute this review point-by-point, but rest assured they’ll never be on site or do anything to correct the issues that led to the criticism. Waiheke Island is beautiful so enjoy the view, because that’s all you’re likely to enjoy at this place. Waiheke Island Resort has it all: resort in name only, closed ammenities, and unserviced rooms. (Please note: they DID make the beds in one of our rooms, once. But nothing else.) Have a fetish for smoke damaged rooms? They’ve got you covered. Want to book two rooms on the same reservation but ensure you’re on apposite ends of the property? WIR is the place to be. Dead palms? Check Rubbish under the deck? Check Staff without a single care or answer? Check and check Courtesy vans? They’ve got two but don’t expect to ride in one. Electric bikes? The signs say ‘yes’ the people say ‘no’. Food? Not if you’re visiting on a day that ends in ‘y’. Weddings? Let me get a divorce lawyer ready for you on speed dial. This place has so much potential, but for now that’s all it has. Let’s hope they put some money into the unheated pool with cracks so large you’d be right to ask if the property was somehow, no matter how scientifically impossible, damaged in the Kaikoura or Christchurch quakes. Or they could address the many many many steps throughout the place that need attention. The most radical thought? For less than $100 they could ensure rooms have cups and plates. (Especially when the “resort” restaurant isn’t open and the nearest shop is a 1.3km walk from the “resort”.) You’d hope the people working here (note: don’t expect anyone on site outside of 10am - 4pm on those pesky days ending in ‘y’) would care enough to try a bit harder or at least proactively suggest local restaurants or things to do given NOTHING IS OPEN OR AVAILABLE DURING PEAK SEASON AT THIS RESORT but, again, no. No a million times over. Most importantly— and this is the most serious criticism— this property is not for ANYONE with any kind of mobility challenges: you will be required to walk up and down significant inclines and there IS NO ASSISTANCE provided for you or your luggage. Not an issue for us but I would have been incandescent if parents or a mobility-challenged individual were with us. So, re-sort your holiday plans if this is the “resort” on your list for all the reasons above and more.

I’ll start with the positive, and unfortunately there’s only one. The view from our room was absolutely incredible. Unfortunately it goes downhill from there… The room was ok, but very tired. There were AirWick plug things all over the place and we were fairly certain that our room had some smoke damage. The pool was disgusting and I wouldn’t even go near the spa. There were kids doing bombs into the pool and no staff around to manage this. But wait, it gets worse. When I asked the (polite but fairly clueless) bartender where the towels were for the pool, he looked so confused. There are no towels for the pool. You need to use your bath towel. When I asked for ice in my drink, he had to go out the back which makes me think that bar is not well managed and probably unnecessary anyway as there were no patrons anyway. The restaurant was closed both nights we stayed which is so bizarre for a ‘resort’. We stayed on a Wednesday and Thursday. There were absolutely no offers of suggestions of where we should go for dinner. The room was down about 50 steps and the staff won’t help you with your luggage. There was a van with the resort logo on it, presumably a courtesy van but no offer to be taken anywhere. The staff were pleasant enough but really didn’t have much of a care factor. When we asked to use the E-bikes, we were told there was only 3 charged (there was 4 of us). I call BS, I would imagine that none were charged. When I asked for the receptionist to call us a taxi van, it really did seem like I was asking for a lot. Quite laughable. Lastly, when we came back after a day out, our room had not been made up. There is no ‘do not disturb’ sign, so I hadn’t accidentally put this up. We decided to get some ice from the bar at 7pm as we had an early dinner in town. The bar and reception was closed and locked. This is not a resort, it’s a motel with an epic view. I wouldn’t recommend staying here but if you do, you need to be self sufficient in regard to food, drinks, excursions and be able to tackle the stairs/hills.
