We spent five nights at the Andreas in downtown Palm Springs. Our large 1 bed "suite" overlooked North Palm Canyon Drive, the "main drag" for downtown PS. The room was comfortable, the location convenient for walking the downtown, area, walking to restaurants, and walking to the ****** (which is across the street is you are a ****** person. We also enjoyed the sun and comforts of the pool area, although the limited number of chaises suggests that there could be some aggressive competition for pool-side space if the day is warm and the hotel is booked. Staff were generally friendly and prepared to assist. Our one major complaint was the WiFi, which was included in the overpriced $34 resort fee add-on to our room charges. This fee, we were told, covered WiFi, on-site parking, the "breakfast bag" (wrapped pastry and a paged, one piece of fruit, juice), towels for the pool, and some other services. The WiFi truly ****** - just awful. Admittedly, we did not go to PS to spend the day in our room on screens. But when we needed it - in the morning to check email and some work tasks, and in the evening perhaps to stream a movie given the limited offerings on the hotel's TV/cable service - it was almost useless. We raised this issue several times with hotel staff: the response was in essence, that "yes, the WiFi can be problematic and erratic, and we regret any inconvenience. Sorry, but there is nothing we can do about it." As for cost (aside from the overpriced resort fee), we were in PS for a "non-event" week, meaning that rooms were reasonable, about $215 plus taxes for the weekday nights and $323 for the one weekend night. No doubt rates would be higher "special event" weekend like the spring music festivals. OVERALL - 3.5 stars.
