The place is amazing. Excellent food, rooms are so comfortable and the pools are beautiful. Only problem…there was a huge wedding going on across from our room. The music was so loud until 10pm that is all you could hear at the restaurants, pools, and in our room. El Mangrove prides itself on Eco Friendless and the noise pollution was out of control. It would have been nice to get just a heads up about the wedding so we would know in advance and be prepared

The staff is the best !!! Couldn’t be nicer !! Couldn’t be more friendly !! The resort is very very tired !! It needs a major new facelift. The bathrooms the rooms are very old and tired looking. It needs a new 2024 renovation. I loved the staff and couldn’t say enough amazing things about them.

Its a minimum of 20 minutes driving from anywhere
Our room had no hot water- they did fix it within the hour
Our coffee pot wouldn’t work. They did fix it
The coffee pot had old water with bugs floating in
Our biggest issue was with *******. They advertised this as all inclusive. I had the screen shots of this. When we got there we were told it was not. We called ******* and said it was in the fine print. I asked what about the very large letters saying all inclusive. They said it wasn’t their problem.

Decent hotel but it’s definitely a business/conference hotel and not a “destination” hotel. If you or your partner get invited to a work meeting here, it would be perfect. But I can’t recommend it for a week long family vacation. Service was hit or miss. Despite having a guaranteed connecting room as we were part of a tour group, the hotel inexplicably moved my young children several buildings away. Completely unacceptable. Shockingly, 5 different people tried to help at the front desk but not one of them was empowered to do anything to fix it. Only because another guest overheard our plight and gave us their connecting rooms was the problem solved. HUGE miss on the hotels part. Also, the reception desk has no shade for guests (only staff) so expect to sit there in the beating hot sun. It’s 95+ degrees here, so trust me when I say sitting in the sun is brutal. Grounds are pretty but the hotel is small. You’ll feel cramped after 2 days. Activities through the water sports desk are INSANELY priced. Definitely look elsewhere for activities. I expect resort prices to be high, but these were next level. Food was decent. Breakfast had a lot of variety but they ran out of tables quickly. Service at the pool was good.

We paid nearly $500/night for a room with a view of a chain link fence and construction behind it, the room had a hint of sewer gas smell which was in the bedding, and they wouldn’t move us to another room. We ordered room service the first night and my wife got food poisoning and spent our three days at the hotel in the room very sick, and the staff responded to us with, “you should have told us of any allergies you had before ordering”, completely ignoring it was food poisoning from a margherita pizza! Huge disappointment from a Marriot hotel and for ruining our 25th wedding anniversary trip and first time to Costa Rica. I’ll never stay at an AC Marriot hotel again.

We just returned from Costa Rica where we spent three nights at El Mangroove. I was worried about staying there had been some negative reviews in the past few months. I contacted William G, who had responded to the poor reviews online and asked him to address some of my concerns. We were traveling 10+ hours to Costa Rica for spring vacation and wanted it to be a great experience! William responded immediately and answered all of my questions. He was so kind and transparent with his answers so we decided to give El Mangroove a try. We are so happy we did! The property is beautiful and the staff was very friendly. I am Marriott Titanium so we were given an amazing room upgrade. The breakfast in the morning was a delicious and varied buffet. We enjoyed that the resort was large enough to have a lot of amenities but not so large that it was a long walk to get anywhere. There are a couple of restaurants for dinner but we mainly went off property to eat. I thought the hotel shuttle was overpriced so after the first night, we took Uber, which was really easy. Our whole family liked the El Mangroove so much better than our second hotel and we all wished we would have stayed at El Mangroove longer. If I find myself in that area of Costa Rica again, I would not hesitate to stay there again. Thank you to William and his whole staff for going out of their way to take care of us!

El Mangroove is unique and special!! From the moment we arrived to the moment we left (sadly), the staff was always there to assist, guide, help to insure we were having a very special experience. The resort is awesome, well laid out with all restaurants, rooms close to the beach. And, El Mangroove has direct beach access. Our room was well detailed and immaculately clean. The food was consistently delicious and all beverages were perfected made. I HIGHLY recommend and would happily return!!
