There are many hotels to choose from on the Left Bank, but the Hotel Recamier is special. It is located right on the Place St. Sulpice, a superb location both for views, restaurants, and public transit access. Some reviewers complain the rooms are small, but they are ignorant of Parisian norms. The room is as big as any hotels we've used in Paris on either side of the Seine, and while small they are beautifully finished. The bath is small but perfectly adequate. Towels and bedding are wodnerful, as is the bed.... The public areas are small as well, but the hotel has only 24 rooms, and these areas are perfectly sufficient for the guests. There is a faily tea 4-6 pm, and a daily continental or full breakfast from 7-1030. Both are excellent. The breakfast seems expensive until you go to any one of the cafes nearby. The hotel is highly copmpetitive for both price and quality, and is incredibly convenient. The staff is exceptional- knowledgeable, kind, polite, helpful. I particularly want to recognize Cecile. She was patient with my French, and her diction amde her easy to understand. She and all teh staff are deeply fluent in English if you are not a French speaker. We have traveled in the US and Europe for years, taking 1-4 trips every year. Hotel Recamier is one of the very finest hotel experiences we have ever had, and I recommend it to any discerning traveler.
