Hotel Camille Paris Gare de Lyon, Tapestry Collection by Hilton

We were rather appalled by the hotel. The room was among the tiniest I've ever been in. The only thing that squeaked more than the bathroom door was the uneven floor, which felt like it was about to cave in. The lovely old windows were glazed over so we could not look out, and they could no t be opened. On the other hand, most everything worked: TV, shower, toilet, lamps. We had just come from a Marriott in London where we paid almost the same price and which was perfect. Lastly our bill contained one final surprise: We were charged 20 Euros for the front desk to call a cab when there were plenty to pick up on the street. The staff was lovely and courteous and largely uninformed, even about the neighborhood.

I had a short stay here with my son at the end of May 2024. It would be easy to say that the highlights of this hotel are the location and the vintage charm - both of which are wonderful - but it was the staff who really stood out for me. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone with whom we interacted were friendly and helpful. The hotel is very near Gare de Lyon - and only about ten minutes walk from Gare d'Austerlitz - in an area surrounded by cafes, bistros and other eateries, so there is no shortage of places for lunch. The hotel is in an old building and although it's part of the Hilton brand, it is more of a traditional Paris hotel. There isn't a restaurant there, other than an area where an excellent breakfast is served filled with cheeses, hams & meats, a collection of breads - but there are no shortage of eateries nearby. There is a wonderful old cage lift in the hotel which adds to the vintage charm. We stayed in a balcony room, which I gather is a larger room, and although there was plenty of room for our short stay, the large double bed takes up a significant portion of the space in the room. There were two USB ports as well as other charging points on either side of the bed, and the small bathroom was big enough for us. The whole room was well designed to make good use of the space. Although there was a balcony, it was not accessible to step outside - it's a very small space - but it gave a lovely Parisian feel to the room and we could open the two sets of doors enough to get some of the air and sounds of the city into the room. Overall, a very traditional Parisian feeling hotel with the support of a big brand. Lovely

Very well located for train travel south from Gare de Lyon which is just across the way. Small hotel nicely decorated, room small but very clean and comfortable. Shower good. Hint to management: designer lighting is very clever and subtle but older eyes need some bright light especially a pivotable reading light at bedside. We did not breakfast there but there are cafes and patisseries nearby and at the station. A short walk brings you to the Seine with a view down to Notre Dame (still in scaffolding).

Excellent value, convenient location by Gare de Lyon, very friendly and helpful staff, super clean and well designed interior and room (please see photos). Breakfast items represented my all time favorites plus amazing boiler for fresh local eggs. The pleasant servers made your coffee and tea to order. From the front desk to the kitchen, these staff members made my first stay in this delightful Hilton Tapestry Collection a great experience: Clement, Judith, Maxine, Mobido, Anis and Marcelle.
