Wonderful experience with my nan’s

We were offered an upgrade to a suite at a much reduced rate and accepted the offer. The room was huge comfortable and well equipped for a pleasant stay. However the room and bathroom looked as if they hadn't been used for a while. In need of an update and tired it also could have been cleaner. A bit disappointing. On saying that the rest of the hotel was very clean, comfortable and welcoming. Staff were all helpful and friendly, and attentive. The food was excellent and the menus had a great selection to choose from. I would definitely visit again, but as the standard rooms are more modern and comfortable I would ask to view any room before agreeing to any update

Warm, friendly front of house staff (Jeanette & Bethany) made a great first impression. The castle itself feels cosy, full of quirky charm, and offers beautiful views of the surrounding grounds. It’s important to recognise that this is an old castle, so some bedrooms are in need of upgrading. That said, the suites have been refurbished to a high standard and are well worth booking. We stayed in the Kelly Suite and were not disappointed. It has been recently renovated and features a large walk-in shower, as well as a deep bath for two with a lovely view over the castle grounds. (Don’t forget to pack bubble bath!) The room is spacious, with a comfortable setting area. A couple of small additions - such as bottled water and a fridge - would make the experience even better. The restaurant caters well to different guests with designated areas for dogs, children, and a la carte dining, which works nicely and gives everyone flexibility. The food is of a very high standard, with excellent presentation across both the a la carte and bar menus. The cocktails are also delicious. Service throughout the hotel is excellent. Staff are smartly dressed, attentive, and genuinely welcoming - taking time to ask about your day and how your stay is going. Giving ideas and place to go in the surrounding area. Leisure facilities are another highlight, with long opening hours and a good range of gym, swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi, heated loungers. The grounds are extensive and even feature a map of Scotland, making it a great place to explore - especially for guests travelling with dogs.

Our second stay here. We arrived early - just after 2PM and our room was ready. Easy check in. We booked a double room but was given a family one :) room tidy with all that we needed-lovely biscuits with the tea and coffee tray. Bathroom a little dated but clean, powerful shower . Our meal was delicious. Served drink and a two course meal very quickly. The staff were all brilliant. We then enjoyed a walk around the ground, visiting the Polish map. A good night's sleep was had. Breakfast had all you needed. Haggis was available on request, I didn't realise this until I had ate my breakfast. Only down fall for breakfast was the sausages, not the best. Thanks for another great stay, we will be back .

Very disappointing stay at Barony Castle Hotel. Unfortunately, this hotel fell far below expectations and is not deserving of a 4-star rating, especially considering the price charged. Early check-in was not available, which would have been understandable, however there was no luggage storage facility, leaving us with nowhere to go and nothing to do while waiting. To make matters worse, there was a wedding fayre taking place that we had not been notified about, which made the only seating and public areas extremely busy and limited any space to relax while waiting. The leisure facilities were also disappointing. The sauna was not working, and the pool is extremely small and not what you would expect from a hotel marketed at this level. Service was very inconsistent. While some staff members were pleasant, others were unhelpful and displayed a poor attitude. When several issues were raised, the manager avoided properly addressing them, and there was no apology or meaningful attempt to resolve concerns. Food and drink service was poor. There was a lack of starter options, with only secondary choices available. Drinks took around 25 minutes to arrive, and in one instance, drinks never arrived at all. Attempting to get a refund for these drinks was unnecessarily difficult and frustrating. Cleanliness was unacceptable. The room was dirty, with blood visible on the door frame, items left on the floor, and dirty bed covers. The overall hotel feels very dated, tired, and understated, and does not reflect the price point or advertised standard. Other guests on the same date had all of the same issues. Overall, this stay did not provide value for money, and I would not recommend this hotel. Photos have been included to support this review.

Stayed a couple of day at the barony Castle, a nice good old little castle to stay with a friendly atmosphere. Prices are reasonable. The hotel offers a healt club with pool and gym. Restaurant is ok but the don’t offer small meals like a sandwich for dinner on the card. The tables with couch outside in the garden is quite uncomfortable. Rooms are ok but. Had a good stay here at the borders.

On the face of it, this looks like a very nice hotel, sadly that wasn't my experience at all. Travelling for business, i booked as a single occupant on a B&B basis. the cost was £113 per night. The single rooms are located at the back of the hotel, accessed via a lift, a corridor the full length of the hotel, a left turn, 2 flights of stairs, a left turn again, through a corridor, then a further 2 flights of stairs. You then access the room which has a single bed (no problem with that) a chest of drawers, tv and kettle. There was no space to hang clothes such as a rack or a wardrobe and the window was only covered by a single light material roller blind. No curtains, which meant the room was daylight just after 3 am. When i complained to the duty manager, he said, he wasn't aware of the issues i was raising and that he would pass it on to the manager. I stayed for 2 nights in the hotel but cut my visit short as a consequence of the hotel rooms unacceptable condition and location given the cost. The restaurant is pricey for the standard of the food and is staffed by a mixture of staff who addressed me as "sir" and other staff who addressed me as "mate" on a positive note, the food arrived in a timely manner. The location of this hotel is beautiful and the surrounding countryside is lovely to travel through, but the hotel is disappointing and that's why i'm guessing its an overal 3.7 standard
