Madsen Retreat

One of the absolute highlights of our trip to Tasmania was a three night stay at Madsen Retreat in Penguin. Our tastefully decorated room with sumptuous linens and everything a discerning guest could ask for, provided quality sleep and a beautiful view of the ocean. We were greeted by Ting, our warm and welcoming host who honestly goes the extra mile for her guests, ensuring that every comfort is catered for. Madsen Retreat is a beautiful haven with sweeping views of the ocean and a comfortable walking distance from the quaint little town of Penguin. It’s only a half an hour’s drive from the Spirit of Tasmania ferry terminal and our only regret is we didn’t stay for longer. For those seeking meticulously clean, high quality accommodation with good old fashioned warm hospitality, look no further than Madsen Retreat. We honestly are so grateful to Ting for her warmth, delicious cheese platters, hot cross buns and pastries! Ting’s service and commitment to her guests’ comfort is truly indicative of a five star quality establishment. A rare find indeed!
Penguin Beachfront Apartments

I had a great 5 night stay at the Penguin Beachfront apartments. My apartment was an accessible apartment on the ground floor so it was massive as I presume it was made for wheelchair access. It had a great view of the ocean and was minutes from all the shops on the Penguin high street. The apartment was very well equipped. It had everything I needed. Check in was easy and communication with management was great. The management weren't on site so the only tiny issue I had was the next unit guests came around several times asking how to check in, how to turn the tv on etc? As I wanted privacy I had to close my curtains to the great ocean view for a day, so they'd stop knocking on my door. Not really the management's fault but maybe a little partition on the balcony between the two units would help so they didn't feel like they could keep 'dropping by'. Of course if you're more friendly or had more time than me, you might love the chatting with the neighbours....haha! 😜
The Madsen Boutique Hotel

Stayed one night in the Executive Spa room, located on the ground floor. The good & the bad: * Friendly welcome at Reception * Free parking opposite (no council staff checking & plenty of spaces available after the shops close) * Room is at the bottom of the stairs and unfortunately they creak, so you can hear everyone walking up and down * Room location also means you can hear anyone sitting in the front bar chatting * Only view is of the shop wall next door and lane way (no ocean views) and one other small window in the bathroom * Nice spa * Two supermarkets close by. One on either side, which was very convenient. Main one closed Sundays, but the other was open. * Room clean & tidy, with plenty of provisions - tea, coffee, coffee pod machine (although you have to pay for each pod you use??), complimentary biscuits, a well stocked mini bar, complimentary ground coffee and fruit in the front bar * Floor in the room above squeaks, so you can hear the people walking around. Can also hear them talking, even their toilet activities 😳, so needless to say I didn't get much sleep that night... A nice, historic place to look at, but would definitely benefit from a few updates.
