The Parklands Hotel

Ratings for all except service based on website. rating on SERVICE based on experience for reasons entirely out of my control, I had to cancel my stay 24hrs beforehand. I called to let them know. I advised I had to cancel and the reply was (word for word) " ok , that's still chargeable". NO ' I'm sorry to hear that' NO "maybe we can find another date so you don't lose your money"... no ' we can't refund you but do you want a credit on account'. if I'd have phoned 12 hours earlier my money would have been refunded or I could have amended my booking. the blame was put on TRIP as I was told ' you booked through them and they wont help you. So I'll be avoiding this place when I go up for my trip, and I'd advise others to avoid places with staff as uninterested as here.

Booked a private room for a surprise family meal. Everything about the process of booking it, selecting menu options, general advice re things was smooth. All communication was prompt and thorough. On the night the set up, food and service was excellent. We had the best night and would definitely recommend Parklands . Thanks for making the night go off so smoothly .

The hotel looks great from outside but inside the room was dark and felt tired. The heating and hot water was very noisy when it came on, and the sound from the floorboards in the room above was extreme. In all this didn’t feel 4* especially when the guy at the desk had little sense of customer service.

Excellent last minute reservation. Very comfortable . Delicious supper .

Parklands was a last minute booking for a quiet stay away. Room was huge and bathroom of a beautiful standard. We booked half board and we are glad we did. Our evening meal was superb. Staff so friendly and helpful too with nothing too much trouble. The owner and chef took time to speak with us as well which we thought was a nice touch

Upon arrival the room we were allocated was cold ( no heating) , was not an issue as it was almost bed time , Shower in the morning was not hot , luke warm at best !!. Breakfast was disappointing, pre- booked the night before potato scones were very under cooked . We returned to the hotel in the afternoon to prepare for an evening out with friends , the shower was freezing , and no hot water in sink taps either , called reception to be told that "we will put the heating/ hot water on now" ....15 mins or so passed still no hot water in shower or sink , another call to reception and member of staff came to the room to check , turns out the shower controls were faulty !!!. in all fairness we were moved to a much nicer room , however it again did take a while for the shower to be usable . Upon check out my wife expressed her disappoin**ent to the staff ( who turned out to be the owner ) only to then be engaged in a full blown argument with a considerable amount of attitude from the "owner", there was another couple checking out at the time who also complained about the hot water situation . It is actually a nice hotel , good location etc.... however small details such as poor breakfast and no access to hot water through the day are what have let it down . For the price i paid i am very dissapointed indeed .

I was looking to surprise my husband for his 50th birthday. I liked the sound of a small "boutique" hotel. I thought this meant there would be a personal touch by mentioning when I booked that it was a surprise for my husband's 50th. I was really so disappointed to find no surprise messages or special touches when we entered our room. It really made it feel as if I hadn't planned anything to make it special for him. Luckily I'd brought his birthday cards from home, so I popped those up. The room was spacious and very clean, breakfast was nice in the morning. Unfortunately the floorboards were very creaky, we were on the ground floor and the guests above us made a lot of noise walking around until the early hours of the morning. So we left feeling very tired and underwhelmed in the morning.

Nice hotel and pleasant staff. Only issue we had was there was no coffee or tea facilities in the 2 rooms we booked

From arriving at the hotel Alex made us feel very welcome. Our room was perfect with a glorious view from the seating area, large bed and very spacious bathroom with separate shower and bath. We dined at the restaurant and it did not disappoint the food was delicious. Again the staff went above and beyond. We had a full nights sleep on the comfy bed. The shower had very good pressure and temperature. The breakfast was very good with a wide selection of hot and cold choices. Alex was on reception on leaving and again was very friendly and helpful. Overall a fantastic hotel and we will definitely return hopefully for longer next time
