Petra by Nights Hotel

Staying at this hotel in the middle of Petra was one of the worst experiences I have ever had in a hotel! That's why we stayed for one night instead of the booked two nights. We quickly got used to the fact that western travelers have to make some compromises when it comes to accommodation in Jordan. Nevertheless, there are decent and miserable accommodations in this price range. Petra Nights Hotel was one of the worst ones, in our experience. And on many levels. It starts with the location and doesn't stop with the local management. The hotel is located "in the middle" of Petra, which wouldn't necessarily be bad, but the road directly in front of the hotel is a main road and accordingly busy. In addition, the road is at a rather steep incline and there is a large gas station right next to the hotel. This means traffic noise can be heard 24 hours a day in the hotel rooms, as noise isolation in the street-facing rooms is next to non-existent. We were allowed to get to know three rooms in one night. Most of them face the street, and it sounds in the room as if the sometimes quite loud vehicles, including many trucks, drive practically directly through the room. They are sometimes particularly loud on the road due to the incline. But even on the side facing away from the street, it's still pretty loud, partly because of the gas station, partly because of the noise reflection. Other: I don't necessarily need a TV in the room on a trip like this, but if it's there it should work. Didn't. Even the technician couldn't fix it. The telephone in the room, which you could use to contact reception, for example, was not even plugged in, as we found out. This was perhaps also due to the fact that no cable socket could be found in the room, not even by the house technician, with whom the device could have been connected. That's not necessarily a bad thing at first, but when you have to walk down four floors to the reception and then back up again for every little thing, of which there were many, it becomes uncomfortable after a short time. Bottled drinking water, two small bottles free of charge, which we found in almost every other accommodation upon arrival, certainly did not exist in our room. The manager, who didn't identify himself as such when I first spoke to him, seemed not very interested in all of this. I only found out from the friendly, helpful receptionist that it was the manager I had spoken to after the manager walked past me shortly after my initial contact with him; and his statement that he wanted to take care of things and then disappeared for the day, was anything but encouraging. Oh yes: when we checked in in the late afternoon, after having been put off on arrival in the morning because the room was not yet available, the room we were initially assigned was still not made up. The bed was obviously unmade after the previous guests had left. After 10 minutes we were then assigned another room. I could go on and on, but I think that's enough
