I thought long and hard about this review, as I didnt want to undermine the main purpose of our party of 22 trip to St James Club, which was to celebrate a family wedding, but fellow travellers need to know. Thankfully our special wedding occasion was perfectly organised and managed thanks to the excellent efforts of the wedding planner Charlene (You’re a star), Charlene exceeded our expectations and was so very thoughtful and caring. Which is more than can be said for the most of the resorts management team approach to customer service and satisfaction, which was non-existant The staff there are generally unfriendly and quite unprofessional , especially the front reception team, lead by a very rude manageress who’s appalling attitude was clearly influencing and reflecting throughout her entire team. In general the resort staff didnt want to be there and were more interested in fellow staff interactions then with any of the guests needs. I'm not sure where the senior management or general manager were but they needed to be more available and perhaps make themselves present around the hotel. Its not rocket science for senior management to circulate and monitor everyday running of the resort and openly communicate with patrons to see if expectations are being met and feedback to see if overall high standards are being delivered. if the poor overall quality and standard we encountered was anything to go by, it was probably due their flak jackets are shot to pieces. Apart from some real gems of staff that just about made our stay bearable, massive thanks to Chad the star bar man and to the Coffee shop barista queen who started every morning with a warm and welcoming smile and the princess behind the pool bar, some of the team at 11/11 Bar , the rest of the staff left a lot to be desired In summary: Until the non-existent senior management start to care about the resorts reputation and 90% of the negative miserable staff learn the core principles of customer service and common courtesy of civility, I will be amazed if the resort last much longer. In reality the resort needs to reset and makes some significant changes, focus on positive guest experience revisions, target renovating below standard tired and dirty accommodation and take a serious look at the very average food across all outlets ( excluding the Italian Piccolo Mondo which albeit expensive was top notch) Regretfully as far as St James Club Antigua goes the cons far outweigh and exceed the pros, the resort leaves a lot to be desired and I strongly recommend fellow travellers to spend their hard earned travel currency anywhere else other than St James Club Antigua.
